“The safety cannot be slow,” Kevin Harvick calls NASCAR out for it’s lack of pace in handling Next-Gen cars safety concerns

Kevin Harvick has, for the second consecutive playoff race day, found himself out of the race early, this time at Kansas Speedway. Though it had nothing to do with car safety, that didn’t stop the veteran from expressing his thoughts on the Next-Gen ca being less safe and NASCAR reacting very slow towards the safety concerns.

The current Stewart Hass Racing driver surely knows a thing or two about the safety of NASCAR rides considering his vast amount of experience that started as a replacement driver for Dale Earnhardt who lost his life in a deadly car crash. Kevin Harvick found himself in a near-death situation at Darlington this month when his car caught on fire as he was forced to leave the car mid-track and run away from it.

Following the Harvick incident and the heavy criticism that came after from the driver and NASCAR community, the sport was quick to come up with some small time changes to the Kansas cup race. But Kevin Harvick is not buying the pace the decision is coming from NASCAR as the veteran once again came out expressing his distaste towards NASCAR on safety issues.

Kelvin Harvick who once again found himself out of contention for a win earlier in the race expressed his distaste towards the pace at NASCAR is solving the safety issues.  He points out that NASCAR is should pick up the pace in solving safety concerns. He added that The crash of is Next-Gen car is a painful and messy affair for the pilots even if the data shows otherwise.

The safety cannot be slow. This car is screwed up as far as the way that it crashes. And whether the data says it or not, every driver in this garage will tell you that’s not right, and it hurts — feet hurt, hands hurt, head hurt,” Kevin Harvick said.

Kevin Harvick pointed out that if things remain like this another Kurt Busch situation is on the way in the cup series, saying, “I think the biggest concern right now is you have another Kurt Busch situation if we just keep letting it go,”.

Kevin Harvick went on to reiterate that the reaction is very slow and said it’s due to the lack of a dedicated team regarding this matter. He pointed out that if such a team exited the solutions for cars catching on fire would have been found.

It’s just a really, really slow reaction. And I think if the teams were in charge of stuff like that and the proper input was put in place, we would have never had more than two fires if the teams were in charge of the whole field because they would have collaborated and not been so slow to react,” says Kevin Harvick.

Kevin Harvick went on to say that for RRRRRR safety is second fiddle, something he doesn’t find as fair to the drivers on the grid, saying, “So the whole safety thing is really kind of second fiddle right now. And I just don’t think that’s fair to the drivers,”.

Is NASCAR’s reaction slow as Harvick accused them to be?
