“The track does not produce exciting racing,” former Daytona 500 champion Jamie McMurray gives his verdict on NASCAR season finale location debate

The 2022 NASCAR season crowned its national series champions last weekend at Phoenix. Joey Logano earned the cup championship. Ty Gibbs and Zane Smith took home the Xfinity and Truck series trophies, respectively. While the lower-tier series had an impressive finale, the premier division’s race was disappointing.
Joey Logano’s dominated the proceeding at Phoenix, and none of the other three cup chasers gave him intense competition. This made the fans furious, and they called NASCAR to change the finale venue. The criticisms will not fade away soon as the 2023 season finale is scheduled to take place in the Arizona track.
Former Daytona 500 winner and cup series Rookie of the year Jamie McMurray has given his verdict on the issue. In the latest episode of the “Door Bumper Clear” podcast, he pointed out that the racing product in Phoenix isn’t good enough. He said, “The track does not produce exciting racing. Like the restarts, they’re great. It’s so much fun. And then you’re like, ‘Oh, boy, we need a caution.’ Right? But the facility is amazing,”.
The track is one of the most developed venues in the cup schedule, but the races it produces are not good enough for broadcasting. He said, “So, I think from a TV perspective, it’s not a good race. I mean, it’s just not exciting. But from a facilities standpoint of going there and being at a cool venue and everything that they’re doing around it, I think it’s a 10. But racing-wise, no,”.
Podcast host Brett Griffin proposed a solution for the problem to Jamie McMurray, and it might work just fine
Kaulig Racing spotter Brett Griffin, co-host of the podcast, offered an idea to change the situation. He wants NASCAR to hold the three National series finales at three separate locations. He wants the Truck series finale to be shifted to Martinsville. He is okay with having the Xfinity finale at Phoenix. He said the cup finale should be held at different venues each year.
Implementing this change might increase the marketing and economic capabilities of the sport. The fans will have the special opportunity to witness unique racing products each year, which increases the entertainment value. Shifting locations will also increase ticket sales as more fans will get the chance to attend races.
