“The ups is that we had a lot of speed. The downs are flat tires,” Tyler Reddick on Coca-Cola 600’s pros and cons after taking home a P6 on Sunday
Tyler Reddick
Tyler Reddick who drives the No.8 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for Richard Childress Racing competing as a full-time NASCAR Cup Series driver was pretty stressed out before starting his run at the historic Coca-Cola 600 and he shared his thoughts before the start and after finishing and earning a 6th place finish as he managed to stay in the top 10 for most of the race. This race was also the lengthiest 600 miles race with a clocked time of over 5 hours and also had a few big ones and multiple cars sliding down to the inside.
Despite Tyler Reddick having a weak start to his season in his first two outings, he came back strong with six top 10s and he placed P2 at the end of Stage 1 of the race and finished with a P6 in the longest Coca-Cola 600 in the sport’s history, and also acquired one top 15 and as a part of the Memorial Day Weekend at NASCAR, he carried U.S. Army 4th Class Specialist Albert Flores Tristan on his windshield as he paying his tribute to the fallen Military candidate.
“To start with, I was worried about it. I’m not really sure what I have going on, but I’m not 100 percent,” said Tyler Reddick
Tyler Reddick started his race with less confidence as he didn’t know where he stood and said that he had to face difficulty in breathing making the race not that enjoyable given its length and despite having a fast car, it’s of no use with problems like this but was glad as he didn’t get caught up in one of those crashes.
“To start with, I was worried about it. I’m not 100 percent. Can’t really breathe that well. So, trying to battle that in our longest race of the year is not fun. Outside of that, it’s tough having a really fast car and having these things keep happening. I don’t know – we may have been in that really big crash, or a couple of them there; so maybe it’s a good thing we had the problem on pit road,” said Tyler Reddick.
He further added by saying that his advantage was having good speed but the problem was tired going flat and he managed to go as wide on the open as possible to avoid bumps on the track and he was successful in that attempt as he overtook Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Michael McDowell which got him his 6th place finish and he was really delighted with that position he went home in.
“The ups is that we had a lot of speed. The downs are flat tires. I just think with having clean air and being able to exit as wide as possible off of turn two every time – you can kind of exit off that bump, in turn, two and be able to put the car where you want to. We were able to pass Ricky (Stenhouse Jr.) and Michael McDowell through the turf. which was nice and we came home sixth,” concluded Tyler Reddick.
With Tyler Reddick standing 12th in the points table, he will have to give his all in the coming races to secure a playoff spot.
