Tony Stewart is mad at NASCAR for Cole Custer’s penalty

NASCAR penalized SHR driver Cole Custer and crew chief Michael Shiplett for alleged race manipulation. The driver received a 50-championship point deduction and a 100,000 USD fine. Shiplett is suspended indefinitely and is fined 100,000 USD.
The penalty was prompted by the curious move made by Custer in ROVAL. On Sunday, Custer suddenly slowed down in the last lap into the chicane allowing his teammate Chase Briscoe to overtake on the backstretch and secure a P9 finish.
Briscoe got into the Round of 8 by just two points on Kyle Larson. Though the penalty didn’t affect Briscoe, SHR wasn’t pleased with the severity of Custer’s penalty. SHR has dropped its appeal on the penalty.
Now, Tony Stewart, NASCAR legend and SHR part-time owner has come forth to express his displeasure at the organization for the severity of the penalty. The retired driver has revealed that he is mad at NASCAR for their actions.

Tony Stewart pointed out that he doesn’t like to speak about the penalty as he is so mad at them. He said, “I’m not going to talk about it. I’m so mad at NASCAR right now, I’m not talking about it,”.
Tony Stewart pointed out that he is glad that he doesn’t have to make a NASCAR appearance this weekend. He added if weren’t for the obligations he has as the team owner he won’t come to any of the NASCAR races this year.
“Super glad I’m going drag racing this weekend. If it weren’t for the fact that I’ve got a couple of appearances that I must make, I wouldn’t be in another NASCAR race the rest of the year. Wouldn’t waste my time,” Tony Stewart said.
NASCAR president Scott Miller said that the penalty would have been more severe if it would have been the deciding factor of Briscoe’s playoff entry. He said, “We can’t have teams manipulating the finishing order. Certainly, on super high alert for the playoffs, and had this been the determining factor in the 14 makings it into the Round of 8 or not, our reaction certainly would have been bigger,”.
Scott Miller acknowledged that there wasn’t any scandalous conversation on the radio to prove race manipulation. He said, “The only chatter they had on the radio was about kind of where they were points-wise with the current running order, but nothing that we could even remotely point to as being any kind of scandalous conversation on the radio,”.
