Three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Tony Stewart made one of the biggest decisions of his life this weekend. The 52-year-old and his wife Leah Pruett have decided to have a family after two years of their marriage. But the Hall of Famer had admitted that he is scared about finally being a father and raising a kid.

Leah Pruett, who is the premier NHRA drag racer, will take a break from her career to have a baby. She is taking a break after having the best season of her career in 2023, which saw her finish second in the championship with two wins, driving for her husband’s team, Tony Stewart Racing in the Top Fuel division.

While talking to Fox Sports about their concerns about finally starting the family, Stewart admitted that he is scared about it. He pointed out that he is not even good at taking care of himself and that makes him scared of it.

I’ve been asking myself that literally the last seven days. I am way more scared about starting a family. I can barely take care of myself. If this kid can make it to three years old on its own, it’s got a shot at surviving.
Stewart told Bob Pockrass.

It’s not just having the child that’s going to be the biggest challenge of his career and he is in for the most drastic career change. He will drive Leah’s car in the 2024 season and will be fighting for the championship.

The decision was made by the crew chief of the Top Fuel team. Stewart does have drag racing experience as he was driving in the second division of the series, Top Alcohol for a couple of seasons, and has some strong events.

While talking about the challenge that is ahead of him, Stewart who will be coached by his wife pointed out that his plan for a full-time  NHRA debut is not to embarrass himself on the track. He will be hoping to have a positive year on and off track.

My goal is to not suck, to not get fired by my wife, and to not kill myself driving this thing.
