Three times NASCAR Cup Series champion and Stewart Haas Racing co-owner Tony Stewart is all set to make motorsports history. Eldora Speedway, the track owned by the champion driver, will host a Sprint car event in July, and the event winner will get a whopping $1,002,023. It will mark the return of The Eldora Million after 21 years.

The 1997 IndyCar champion bought the dirt track in 2004 late Earl Baltes, and the reason he has resurrected the vent is to make the previous owner proud. The track has previously hosted million-dollar rewarding late-model dirt races. The total purse for the main event will be 1.4 million dollars. It is the first-ever sprint car event to pay a seven-figure prize.

The two-day-long open race is expected to see the entry of at least  80 drivers. It will host a qualifying event on July 13 before fixing the final grid for the main race on July 14. There is also an opportunity to earn a $175K payday from the Kings Royal event that will take place on July 14 and 15 following the million dollars race. This makes a $2 million race week at the track.

The Drag Racing driver and SRX Series owner pointed out that the race was long overdue, and he is proud to make it a reality after such a long time. He added that the million-dollar prize pool shows gratitude from the track to the sprint car drivers who put on one of the best racing shows in the country.

I think it’s been long overdue. We’ve had two, $1 million-to-win dirt late model races at Eldora, but to finally do it for the sprint car community is something that makes all of us at Eldora really proud. Sprint car drivers put on some of the best shows in all of racing, and this is our way of saying thank you,” Tony Stewart said in a press release.

The champion driver added that hosting the race is the best way for the track to honor its previous owners. He said, “I can’t think of a better way to honor their legacy than by bringing back The Eldora Million one more time for both our longtime drivers and fans, as well as a whole new generation who have only heard about it.”
