Alex Bowman has signed a multi-year contract extension with Hendrick Motorsports that will see him racing for the Chevy giants until the 2026 Cup season. Bowman inherited the No:48 team from Jimmie Johnson in 2020 after the seven times champions retirement. His primary sponsor Ally Financial signed a deal with the team, and they will remain as the primary sponsors of the No:48 team till 2028.

Bowman’s contract was set to expire at the end of 2023. This is the second contract extension he has signed since joining the No:88 HMS team back in 2018, following Dale Earnhardt Jr.s retirement. He signed his first extension in 2021 after taking over the No:48 team. He has scored 7 Cup race wins for HMS and has secured playoff entry in all six seasons he has driven for the team.

He fished P16 in the 2022 season following concussion-like symptoms he suffered in the Round of 16 Cut-off race in Texas. Bowman was sidelined until the season finale in Phoenix. He is stepping into the new crew in 2023 following Greg Ives’s departure. Blake Harris is the new No:48 team crew chief. With a guaranteed seat for at least three years, Bowman is expected to showcase his championship potential this year.

It’s hard to put into words what this opportunity means to me. Having support from a sponsor like Ally, a car owner like Mr. Hendrick, and a team like Hendrick Motorsports is everything you could want as a race car driver. I’m pumped about what’s in store for the Ally 48 this season and love the direction we’re heading. We have a lot to accomplish, and it all starts this week in Daytona,” Alex Bowman said about the contract extension.

We’re thrilled to extend with Alex, who is one of NASCAR’s most exciting young stars. In addition to being hugely talented, he has incredible passion and commitment that set him apart. He’s a proven winner, and I don’t know of anyone who has worked harder to reach this level. The opportunity to continue our relationships with Alex and everyone at Ally is a great way to kick off 2023. It’s a tremendous combination,” said HMS owner Rick Hendrick on the extension.
