The 2023 cup season welcomes two new rookie drivers to the Cup garage. The 2022 Xfinity series champion Ty Gibbs will drive the No:54 car for his grandfather Joe Gibbs’s TRD team JGR. He is accompanied by last year’s Xfinity runners-up Noah Gragson who will drive the No:42 car for LEGACY MOTOR CLUB. Both drivers started a sizable number of races in the 2022 Cup series and hopes to start on a high note on the back of the experience they gained.
Gibbs will make his Great American Race debut on February 19, while Gragson already has two starts in the past. Hopes are high for Gibbs in 2023 as he replaced the most successful TRD driver, Kyle Busch, at JGR. A Daytona 500 win like Austin Cindric’s 2022 heroics will be huge, and he sure will be looking forward to earning the Daytona 500 win Busch is yet to deliver.
“It’s definitely really cool, for sure, to be a part of it for the first time. I’ve been a part of it, attending as a fan and being with my family. But to compete in it as a driver for the first time is really special. I feel really blessed to have the opportunity,” Ty Gibbs said about his Daytona 500 debut.
“The Daytona 500 is such a big race, and to be a part of it is really cool. It’s a very crazy race, and you have to try to stay out of trouble. Throughout the race, you need to be able to make the right adjustments. It’s going to be very important to have the car we want when it does get down to the end, and things get crazy. I just hope to be there at the end. You’ve got to be in it to win it,” Ty Gibbs added.

Ty Gibbs wants his off-season hard work to pay off in 2023
Gibbs had an emotional rollercoaster within the span of hours last November. He lost his father, Coy Gibbs, just hours after his Xfinity Series win and has been living a private life since. Even after his cup promotion was announced, he kept a low profile working on his emotional health and racing. He hopes that all his hard work in the off-season will pay off.
“I got to race in some Cup races last year, and I’m really looking forward to getting back in the Cup car full-time, and now get to race against the best stock car racers in the world every week. Hopefully, all my hard work will pay off,” Ty Gibbs said.
“I’ve been working really hard in the offseason, and my team has been working really hard, as well. We’ll see how that translates to the track starting in Daytona, but it’s a long year, and we’ll keep working each week and try to get better and better as the season goes along,” Ty Gibbs added.
