Joe Gibbs Racing rookie Ty Gibbs seems to be finding it hard to keep himself away from incidents involving Team Penske Racing drivers recently. Last week at Daytona, he was part of Ryan Blaney’s violent crash, and on Sunday at Darlington Raceway, it was last season’s rookie of the season, Austin Cindric, who was part of an incident.

During the last laps of stage one, Cindric’s No:2 Mustang was fighting for a top-15 finish against the Gibbs. The Ford slid up the track and got slammed into the wall after the car got lose. The No:54 Toyota Camry was collected in the incident. Gibbs tried to slow down but couldn’t and T-boned the 2022 Daytona 500 winner’s car.

Both were able to detach themself soon. The incident had heavy implications for Cindric as he had major damage, while the rookie had some non-significant damage as well. Stewart Hass Racing Aric Almirola collected some minor damages, and it also caused an incident between Christopher Bell and Ryan Preece.

The 2023 season so far has been something to forget for Cindric. He is the only driver from Roger Penske’s garage not to make it to the playoffs. He has been inconsistent throughout the year, and the general struggles of Ford teams didn’t help as well.  Gibbs, who is set to win the Rookie of the Year award, didn’t have the best year either. He is the only Toyota not to make it to playoffs.

Fans had a mixed set of reactions to the incident. Some fans were quick to point figures at Gibbs as it is the second time in two weeks that he has been part of an incident with a Penske driver. Cindric also got the heat as he has failed to deliver in multiple races this season.
