The NASCAR Cup Series race at Richmond was eventful race where the fans saw how even the most composed driver on the garage can easily lose his mind when things suddenly go south. The same happened to 2017 Cup champion Martin Truex Jr. He slammed his Joe Gibbs Racing No:19 Camry onto Hendrick Motorsport driver Kyle Larson at the backstretch on the final laps despite the latter racing him cleanly.
Martin Truex Jr. lost the race in overtime to Denny Hamlin in the restart with the help of questionable moves employed by the No:11 Camry driver. This made the veteran frustrated and made his to do uncharacteristic moves. After the race, Kyle Larson was asked about the dangerous move by Truex Jr. He pointed out the incident was just the TRD driver taking his anger on Hamlin out on the No:5 Chevy.
I got in behind the 22 and he just turned left across my nose. Had me up on the apron of at 2, I don't know if he thought that i just piled it in there. Door Slam me, down the middle of the backstretch. So, I think he just more mad at Denny, but I was the closest one to take his anger out on.Kyle Larson told Fox Sports.
Larson also pointed out how Truex Jr. is one of the most well-behaved and respected drivers in the garage and how there are no hard feelings between them despite the incident. Besides this, the shocking door slam was very unusual for the Joe Gibbs Racing driver and something he will definitely want to rethink in the future.
Kyle Larson’s breaks down reason for Martin Truex Jr.’s anger
Hendrick Motorsport driver Kyle Larson faced the wrath of Martin Truex Jr. at the race at Richmond. According to Larson, Hamlin got into the lead of the race by pushing Truex Jr. off the track and the ex-DEI driver was hurt due. to his own teammate using him up.
My view was Denny used him up off of (turn) two and just kind of ran him out the racetrack to get the lead… and then he was just kind of falling back on the middle lane there, the 22 got too… he was inside and kind of ran hard into (turn) one… and then I just followed the 22.Kyle Larson said.
Larson easily understands the pain and disappointment Truex Jr. is going through, as he has found himself in a similar situation twice last year where Hamlin employed wild moves to score the win. All three drivers would soon be over this incident as their primary focus will be to fight for the championship.
