IndyCar driver Will Power shared an emotional moment with team owner Rick Hendrick at Indianapolis on Thursday. Power’s wife, Liz Power, was near death in January due to a Staph infection in her spine. With her situation worsening, Hendrick called Power to tell him that he set up appointments with some of the best doctors for his wife. This help went a long way for him as Liz recovered and is in good health now.

Power gifted Hendrick the helmet he had worn in the 2023 Indianapolis 500. It was signed by him and had a heartfelt message for Hendrick, thanking him for his assistance. He revealed that Hendrick was one of the first people to call him when his wife fell ill and was involved constantly throughout the tough phase. Power said the helmet was all he could think of getting him since it held meaning.

“He never stopped calling through the whole process. My wife and I will never forget. I couldn’t think of what to get him, to give to Mr. Hendrick. It’s all I could think of that was close to what I should get him,“ said Power.

To this, Hendrick said that he was honored to have received the gift. He said, “I don’t need anything, but man, this is something I’ll treasure. I’m a big fan, anyway. But boy, I’m honored to have it. Thank you so much.”

Will Power’s emotional gesture towards Rick Hendrick has been getting much attention. This act of kindness has Hendrick on the receiving end of praise from many NASCAR personalities. Recently, Dale Earnhardt Jr. took it to X to praise Hendrick.

Hendrick has always been known to be friendly with his drivers and create a comfortable atmosphere within the team. Dale Jr. said that he has known Hendrick for a long time, and has always heard stories of him helping out others. He also wondered how many times Hendrick has helped out other drivers like this.

“I wonder how many times Rick has done this for someone. As long as I’ve known him, I’ve heard stories of him helping others like this,” Dale Jr. posted on X.
