Kyle Larson who drives the No.5 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for Hendrick Motorsports and competes as a full-time NASCAR Cup Series driver appears to be eagerly waiting to get back on to the Sonoma Raceway this weekend which marks the second road course event of the season with the first being the Echopark Automotive Grand Prix at Circuit of The Americas where fans witnessed Ross Chastain of Trackhouse Racing emerge victorious.
Kyle Larson will also be returning to his home state for this race and he is really looking forward to having a great run this weekend having won the 2021 Cup Series event at the same track marking his career’s first road course victory he also later went on to win the races at Watkins Glen and the Charlotte Roval and this season he stands strong with a win at Auto Club Speedway and seven top 5s with also his fair share of DNFs.
“I’ve always had some good speed at Sonoma,” Kyle Larson speaks of his strengths at Sonoma
Kyle Larson arguably has an advantage on road courses given his victories last season and coming to Sonoma this year he hopes to deliver the same performance he exhibited last year he is aware of his skills on this track and he is glad to meet his loved ones and with he looks forward to running well this weekend with the Next-Gen car too and anticipates the win.
“I’ve always had some good speed at Sonoma (Raceway) and it’s my home track. It’s always fun to see my friends and family, and it was cool to get my first win at my home track last year. But that was with last year’s car and on the longer track. Hopefully, we can get another pole there this weekend, lead some laps, and challenge for the win again,” said Kyle Larson.
Kyle Larson’s crew chief, Cliff Daniels spoke about what he thinks of the race that is yet to come after a few changes were made and he said that he thinks the modifications in the track layout will be much different than their previous outings there and that they will have to shift their concentration onto right-hand turns and with the changes made, left-hand turns will be a lot less significant with them already working on those and he has a feeling that the race will be totally different this season.
“The track layout will be a different element compared to the last couple of trips we’ve made there. We’ll place a little more emphasis on right-hand turns because so much focus was placed on the carousel and the left-hand turning capability of the car – and now we don’t race that portion of the track. It’s just going to race differently,” said Cliff Daniels, Kyle Larson’s crew chief.
With Kyle Larson having a win to his name and a 7th place in the points table, he is entitled to a playoff spot and a potential shot at the Championship.
