“We’re competitive,” Erik Jones envisages a playoffs spot with Petty GMS this season

Erik Jones who competes full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series driving the No.43 Chevrolet Camaro for Petty GMS Motorsports is pumped up and positive about getting a spot in the playoffs as he feels that he and his team have been preparing for this.
Erik Jones has had a pretty good season so far with a P3 at the Auto Club Speedway, one top 10, two top 15s, three times below top 25s, and two DNFs at Daytona International Speedway and the Pennzoil 400 and he currently stands 19th with 194 points.
Erik Jones agrees that it’s been a while since the team got into playoffs and setting their mindsets for it is crucial and is also certain that the team and he are going to make it big this season with their competitive spirit.
“It’s definitely been a few years, and so getting those guys in that mindset I think is going to be big, they feel like we’re competitive, and I feel like we’re competitive,” says Erik Jones.
“If we hit the day right, we can contend,” said Erik Jones

Erik Jones felt that if they start off well, they can contend by talking about the race at Fontana. But when it came to Las Vegas that wasn’t the case as they had too many flaws that day and on days like these he’d be happy with top 15s.
“If we hit the day right, we can contend, look at Fontana — we contended. Vegas, we had a car that could have contended but made too many mistakes, and went to the back too much. On days where we struggle, top 15s would be great,” said Erik Jones.
He added saying that he looked at his points and standings he still has a chance at playoffs if they have clean races from now on and that he and his team want to win races and has said that winning races is everybody’s goal including Richard Petty and Maury Gallagher.
“So, I look at the points and where we’re at, and I think we have a good shot at making the playoffs if we can have good clean runs. We want to win races. That’s my goal, Maury’s [Gallagher] goal, Richard’s [Petty] goal — everybody’s goal,” added Erik Jones.
“Talladega, that’s a shot for us to run really well and win,” said Erik Jones

Speaking of racing at Talladega this week, Erik Jones is pretty hyped up for it as it’s a chance for him to win along with the upcoming Dover Motor Speedway and Kansas International Speedway which he thinks will end up well for him and his team showcasing their strengths.
“Talladega, that’s a shot for us to run really well and win, Dover and Kansas coming up soon are going to be, I think, really good races for us. Those are the things that will show we’re pretty strong,” concluded Erik Jones.
Despite his performance, this year and his confidence about the upcoming Geico 500, will Erik Jones turn his tables around and guarantee a spot in the playoffs?
