Teams struggling to produce the best out of their pit crews have been a common event so far this season in the NASCAR Cup Series as the crew of multiple teams are struggling to produce their best even though some crews are producing record-breaking pit stops this season. The trouble manly wheels or tires getting loose…etc. has been bugging teams irrespective of their manufacturer or the financial capability of the team.
The two Toyota teams Joe Gibbs Racing and 23X1 Racing has been among the most affected but sometimes impressive team of the 2022 season in terms of pit stops. The No:23 team of Bubba Wallace without any doubt has been the most struggling outfit in the 2022 season as the costly mistakes from his team have brought down a number of top runs from the driver to dismay.
Following the recurring bad calls from 23X1 Racing and JGR which supplies the team, the crew has agreed to make some switches among the crew members of Wallace and their young driver Christopher Bell which didn’t sit well with some individuals in the NASCAR community. Some have called out the decision including the likes of veteran commenter Dave Moody which brought a strong reaction from JGR driver and 23X1 co-owner Denny Hamlin.

Dave Moody following the announcement of the decision through his personal Twitter handles called out Joe Gibbs Racing for the crew switch claiming if one thinks in Christopher Bell’s shoes, he might not be feeling like a high priority right now. His words can allude to the fact that JGR has always been the bad trend setter when it comes to handling their youngsters or rookies and the team owners Grandson is waiting for g on the side-line aiming for a cup entry.
“If I’m Christopher Bell, I’m not feeling like a high priority right now. #NoPitCrewLove” Dave Moody tweeted.
But veteran JGR driver Denny Hamlin wasn’t fond of the comments made by Dave Moody as he called him out saying how can he say something like that, with limited knowledge of how things were subjected to change. He went on to say that its speed, Chemistry, leadership, and experience is what make a pit crew successful, which is a rare recourse to have for the whole team. He points out that mixing personals among one another can make all the teams have individuals with that quality.
“What makes you say that, Dave? Especially without knowledge of why changes were made. Chemistry, speed, leadership, and experience is what make up a successful pit crew. Some teams have 2 or 3 of those but not all. Perhaps mixing a few from one to another it helps both get all 4,” Denny Hamlin tweeted.
Though Denny Hamlin’s words can be used for the sake of arguments Dave Moody is also right as the team JGR is not the best example when it comes to young drivers’ management. It’s true that Bubba Wallace was let down by his crew a few times and Moody might not want that to happen to Bell also by switching the crew which can produce negative outcomes for both the drivers in the future.
