In terms of masterful performances, Hendrick Motorsports’ Willaim Byron and Joe Gibbs Racing’s Denny Hamlin have been the best drivers of the 2023 season. He has won six races so far this season and is the most in-form driver going into the Round of 8 of the playoffs. Byron won the first R-12 race at Texas and secured P2 finishes in the other two races.

While talking about his chances of securing the first Cup title this year, the driver of Jeff Gordon’s iconic No:24 Chevy pointed out that his team has the blueprint in front of them for success. But he and his aren’t ready to be complacent, as they understand they have to evolve to continue to stay ahead of their rivals.

I mean I think the blueprint is there for success. But the thing I always caution is that things change and evolve, and teams and drivers improve. So, we have to kind of take that next step at all of these race tracks coming up…Yeah, I don’t maybe look at it that much, but it is nice to know and have that comfort that I know how to get around these tracks,” Byron said on Saturday, as reported by Motorsports.

What makes Byron a true contender is the fact that he has at least one race in the coming four tracks, which are Vegas, Homestead, Martinsville, and the final track, Phoenix. The impressive form his team has shown throughout the season in the intermediate tracks will be a massive advantage for them.

Byron said, “I don’t know yet. That’s for you guys to decide. I just go out there and drive. For me, it’s one step at a time, it really is. It felt great here last time, so we just have to wait and see. Take it one step at a time in each race of this round. I’m not looking too far ahead, honestly.”

He isn’t the only HMS driver in the fight for the championship; alongside him, there is the 2021 Cup champion Kyle Larson in the mix as well. He also has been strong in the intermediate tracks and is one of the top candidates for the last four.
