Hendrick Motorsports development driver Rajah Caruth is one of the most talented youngsters on the NASCAR garage. He is currently racing for the championship in the Craftsman Truck Series with Spire Motorsports and has been solid in most of the races this season. Being contracted to HMS is really special for the racer.

Growing up Rajah Caruth was a huge fan of seven times Cup Serie champion Jimmie Johnson. Just like Caruth, Johnson was an HMS driver. He got his big break in the Cup series with them and till he retired in 2020 he drove for them scorings 83 wins alongside the championships. Caruth was a huge fan of the aura of a champion Johnson had around him.

He pointed out that Johnson was his first favourite driver growing up. Caruth went on to detail the really special moment he spent with Legacy MC co-owner and his family last year. He reiterated that it was really cool top have spent some person moments with someone who he grew up idolizing in television.

So, my first favorite driver was Jimmie Johnson. He just carried himself like a champion so that was really infectious and I got to spend a little time with him and his family last year and so, that was really special. Because it’s like the man you grow up watching and idolizing on television to have a personal relationship with him is cool.

Rajah Caruth reveals the story of his NASCAR encyclopedia

Before naming Johnson as his favorite driver, Rajah Caruth pointed out that growing up he was huge fans of the sport. He was obsessed with a NASCAR encyclopedia he got as a child which helped his to grow as a student of the sport.

I was just a huge fan of the sport, period. Of just being a student of it, I got this encyclopedia when I was seven. … I just was obsessed with it.
Rajah Caruth said.

The young driver has a lot prove to continue with Hendrick Motorsports and maybe in the future drive the iconic No:48 car that was once driven by his idol. It would be interesting to see how Caruth’s career with HMS will playout.
