Since Jimmie Johnson joined the ownership group of Legacy Motor Club, alongside Richard Petty and Maury Gallagher, the team is on a different direction of development. He has led the team through some massive changes, including new top tier signings, a move to Toyota and recently securing new external investment that made the ex-HMs racer the majority owner.
They are becoming solid on the track over time as well, after the significant addition made to the team. Hall of Famer Rick Hendrick, who fielded cars for Jimmie Johnson his whole Cup career recently shared his feelings about how the seven times champion has grown as a team owner. He is really proud of the exceptional job his ex-racer is doing at LMC.
I’m super impressed with Jimmie. He came to me and told me what he was working on before he ever went into the deal over there with those guys (Richard Petty and Maury Gallagher). But I know Jimmie Johnson well enough that, when he puts his mind to it, he’s going to work his butt off. And he’s done an exceptional job.

The HMS owner pointed out that Johnson has gone the right way and is building the team the right way. He also highlighted that leadership qualities, work ethic and surrounding him with the right people that makes Johnson a solid team owner. Hendrick also pointed out that Johnson is good at bringing in sponsors for the team as well.
He’s gone about it the right way. He built it a brick at a time. You try to get your base right, and you can grow it. Jimmie’s a leader, and his work ethic is so good. He will be a force in the sport because he will surround himself with good people. And he’s articulate. He will be able to bring in good sponsors. I’m real proud of him.

Jimmie Johnson explains how things have changed for him as a team owner
In a recent episode of his podcast, Jimmie Johnson shared his feelings about the difference he is facing as an owner at LMC compared to his time at HMS. He pointed out that at the HMS he had every resource at his disposal and now at LMC he doesn’t have that luxury. Johnson is working with his whole organization to make sure they are competitive in the races.

But now as a team owner… now I gotta worry about why, I gotta worry about PNL. Back to the Hendrick days, we had all the resources we could ever dream of. Now I am in a situation where we don’t have all the resources we could ever dream of, where our focus is as an organization and how we help other departments… competition comes first right now.

The comments from Jimmie Johnson shows he understands the disadvantages his team has and what they need to do to gradually grow into a front runner in the Cup series. It would be interesting to see how the Hall of Famer will lead the team in the coming years.
