The defending NASCAR Cup Series champion Ryan Blaney came into the Brickyard 400 determined to kiss the bricks with the trophy alongside him. But he got outraced by main championship rival Kyle Larson of Hendrick Motorsports, as the No:5 Chevy driver took advantage of the overtime drama that involved multiple wrecks.

Ryan Blaney lost the race when race leader Brad Keselowski was forced pit with just five laps left in the race ahead of the restart after running out fuel, which gifted the No:5 the lead and eventually allowed him to be the No:1 car when the race was red flagged. The Team Penske No:12 driver never recovered from it and finished P3 and is pissed off over how the race played put.

I’m pissed. I’m pissed… I told my guys I’m ticked off but I don’t know who to be ticked off at. It’s just like, racing luck. The break that he got and the hardship that we got there with that happening at that time just killed our race. We put ourselves in the perfect spot to win and just that weird circumstance it just benefitted him and just killed our race, you know? Any chance of us to win.
Ryan Blaney said after the race.

The Penske driver, who came back into form in the last few weeks seems very upset about not securing his third win of the season at IMS, the track owned by his boss Roger Penske. He is pissed off at lady luck as it isn’t the first time he has lost a race despite being in the right place at the end this season.

That’s what I’m upset about, I’m not mad at anybody. Just lady luck, I’m just pissed off at, just s****s man.
Ryan Blaney added.

Ryan Blaney has nothing to do but move on

Though luck favoured Kyle Larson, he won the race fair and squire and there is nothing Ryan Blaney could have done at the moment. So, though the results stink he is looking forward to get over the finish and be more productive in the coming races.

Stinks to lose in that way. Appreciate the effort. I hate we don’t get to celebrate with Mr. Penske and everyone at Penske here. That stings a lot. Just try to keep going. That’s all you can do.
Ryan Blaney said.

The No:12 Ford driver has two weeks break, because of the Olympics to get over the losing the race and plan better for the upcoming events. The team have to perform, on the same level or more, consistently in the remaining races to defend the championship.
