Ford duo of Rayn Blaney and Michael McDowell came into the race this week at New Hampshire with entirely different goals. The reigning champion was looking to secure back-to-back wins, while the Front Row Motorsports driver came in desperately looking to score a win that would yield him a spot in the playoff.

But both of their dream shattered following a clash between the two with just nine laps left in the race. Michael McDowell while attempting a risky move on Ryan Blaney to take P2, the No:34 Mustang got lose and resulted in both drivers ending up in the wall and dropping down to the back. McDowell later personally apologized to Blaney for the incident.

While the No:12 Ford driver was really happy to receive the apology, he wasn’t cool with the comments the veteran made to defend his move. McDowell asserted that he had to take the risk since his point position isn’t favourable. But Blaney feels the veteran should have been more calculated at that moment.

It was a low percentage move, it’s wet down there and you’re just gonna drive it down in there, what do you think is gonna happen. Like, you’re gonna take both of us out. I know he’s gotta win and all that, and that’s his excuse, but be a little more calculated in that. He just thinks we were at the expense of it.

Ryan Blaney feels he had a shot at winning the race

The Ford driver is more disappointed because of the fact that he knew he had a decent shot at winning the race against Christopher Bell. He was looking forward to restart and taking his chance on the JGR driver, but things didn’t pan out as expected.

I really thought we had a decent shot to contend. I was happy because we came in, we got tires on, made a big adjustment and I was looking forward to restarting behind [Christopher] Bell and see if we have anything for him, just never really got a chance.
Ryan Blaney said.

While the final result was disappointing, Team Penske can be happy about how good the ran the whole day before the incident. They now can be more confident about the chances of defending the Cup Series title.
