The premier stock car racing series in the world, NASCAR and the drivers who gave everything on the track often doesn’t get the respect many athletes gest in terms of how demanding the sport actually is. There are some fans around the sport that often downplays the hardship drivers has go through to make it in the sport.
One of the major reasons behind this attitude is the accessibility the sport had. Majority of the fans doesn’t have any experience of racing, unlike other premier sports, hence they would often overlook the difficulties un-intentionally. The defending Cup Series champion Ryan Blaney recently talked about how little fan understood the hardship of racers,

The Team Penske No:12 Ford Mustang driver pointed out that just like every other professional sport, NASCAR is very demanding. He pointed out that the fans don’t realize this because of the lack of firsthand experience with it. It’s a sentiment that many top drivers share and is not just unique to champion driver.
How hard it is. And that’s with any professional sport. I have no idea what it’s like to try and hit a 100-mile-per-hour fastball. I know it’s extremely difficult, but I have never put myself in those shoes. It’s the same with racing. You don’t know how difficult it is to try to be on the edge of control every lap without stepping over it.Ryan Blaney said via The Athletic.
Ryan Blaney reveals the hardest part about racing
While further talking about the point, he listed the challenges a NASCAR driver faces every race. He highlighted that improving race craft, beating the 38 rivals, going fast and most importantly understanding grip and limit is demanding for the drivers. The fans with no racing experience might not understand these difficulties.

How do you work on your car and your racecraft to try to get to that level of speed, and how do you beat the 38 other people out there around you? Anyone can drive a race car, but how the heck do you go faster than everybody else? That’s the hardest part about it, is trying to find that grip and limit. People who don’t race don’t have that experience of actually how difficult it is to be good and successful as a race car driver.Ryan Blaney said.
NASCAR should be investing more into highlighting how hard its drivers are working via social media and other platforms. The teams and the entourage of drivers should also step in to make it happen as the more fans respect the hard work of drivers the more passion and support there will be shown from the fans.
