The NASCAR Cup garage is at Iowa Speedway getting ready for the maiden Cup Serie race in the track’s history. It has been hosting Xfinity Series and Truck Series races, but wasn’t able to get the Cup date they have been looking forward to from 2006. The drivers and fans are looking forward to how the race would playout as most have a huge concern about the track surface.
The track was partially repaved ahead of the race week and it creates a situation where the difference in the new and old groove is very significant. The old lanes that weren’t repaved will be slower compared to the repaved lane and it creates a situation where single file racing with limited passing will be a possibility on race day.
Defending Cup Series champion Ryan Blaney is one of the drivers who is frustrated with the partial repaving of the track. He pointed out that the track authorities should have either repaved the whole track or keep the old asphalt. Doing the partial repave is a senseless move from NASCAR according to the Team Penske Racing.
In my mind, you either leave it or you pave the whole thing… You had two choices, and I would have been fine with both choices. And they went with the third choice. That doesn’t really make much sense to me.
Ryan Blaney told Jeff Gluck.
Ryan Blaney admits to having a rough time with points
The title defending season hasn’t been the best for the Ford champion. He pointed out that he has been struggling with points due to wrecks and incidents. Blaney admitted that the No:12 team has missed out on a lot of points in the 2024 season and asserted that he should have been 100 or more points ahead that current tally.
A little bit, especially now with having three pretty rough point finishes in a row. I mean, from wrecking at Darlington, wrecking at Charlotte, got good stage points last week, but the finish was terrible. We just given away tons of points. I wish we were ... we should be +100 (points) to the good rather than where we're at.Ryan Blaney said.
It’s would be interesting to see how the race would playout for Ryan Blaney and the remaining of the Cup garage at Iowa. It would be a huge disappointment if race turned out underwhelming because of the repaving as the fans deserves much better.
