Coming into the NASCAR Cup Series race weekend at the question was will anyone will be able to match Shane van Gisbergen in the qualifying and the race. The first question was answered by a wildcard run from Team Penske Racing Ryan Blaney, who won the pole position with a 11.960s lap while SVG secure P2 with 11.993s lap.
On Sunday, Ryan Blaney will line up in the front with a target on his back and his close friend Bubba Wallace couldn’t stop himself from taking a hilarious dig at the Team Penske driver. On his post-race press conference, the No:12 Ford driver revealed that the No:23 Toyota driver taunted him by saying Shane van Gisbergen will be coming for his head once the green flag come down.
I mean, take little wins when you can get them. Bubba came up to me and said, ‘Well, that was a bad idea because now he’s going to really wax you tomorrow.’

The 2023 Cup Series champion had the perfect response to it, as he told Wallace the pole win might be the start of the Cup grid slowly getting on the same level as the kiwi Supercars champion. He is happy regardless, considering how tough the last year’s race at the venue for him. as in 2024 he wrecked on lap one starting the event in the back.
I said, ‘Hey, beat him once this weekend.’ So, we gotta start somewhere. It’s just nice to start towards the front. Last year, at this race, we had a rough weekend and qualified in the back. Got into the wreck on Lap 1, and um, to turn around and have a much better start to the weekend at least, just hope to keep it up.
Ryan Blaney added.
In the post-race interview earlier Blaney also talked about the Pole Position win being pretty significant for him, as well as Team Penske as it marked their 150 pole win in the top tier. He is determined use the one lap speed advantage they have to the whole race and produce a strong run at a track where he has never really delivered.

The Trackhouse Racing star came into the weekend determined to prove himself, as he had a bad outing last year at the track. So, he isn’t too much disappointed with the result, as even with P2, he can get into the lead early in the event.

Talking about the pole position loss after the race, SVG admitted that he is really impressed with how close the road course racing and qualifying is. He asserted that though he made a few mistakes, he had a strong lap and P2 is a decent result for the session.
Man, it’s amazing how close it all is for a road course. My laps were OK, and there probably were some things I could have fixed. Decent start for tomorrow.

The veteran raced in the Xfinity Series race on Saturday at Glen and was involved in a massive wreck. His teammate Conor Zilisch made contact with him during a fight for the lead, and it resulted in a violent wreck. He was forced to retore from the race, while Zilisch went onto win the race. So, he might be looking to win on Sunday and redeem himself.
