The NASCAR Cup Series race last weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway marked an iconic moment, with Wood Brothers Racing’s Josh Berry secured an impressive win. It marked the maiden victory for the ex-JR Motorsports driver and gave the team, which has been in survival mode for many years, a major boost.
One of the reasons behind WBR’s success is the close ties with Ford giants Team Penske Racing, as they often operate as the fourth Penske car. The 2023 Cup Champion Ryan Blaney recently talked about this partnership and the win from Josh Berry. He highlighted how the No:20 team deserves to be contenders for race wins.
They do a lot of work out of our shop, a lot of Penske personnel are in that car, as well as a lot of Wood Brothers folks that have been there a long time before the Penske partnership. That’s where that thing should run. That thing should be contending for wins; that group deserves it, and I’m sure you’re going to see some great things out of them.
Ryan Blaney said via RACER.
He believes Josh Berry and crew is not done with racing, claiming they are not done with the historic 100 race wins. Blaney also reveals that he cherishes celebrating WBR’s wins, with owner Eddie Wood in the victory lane.
They’re not done winning. People were excited for them to get 100, and they’ll continue to rack it on. So, that was cool. I went to victory lane Sunday and stood there with Eddie [Wood] when the car got there. It was cool to share that moment with him again; I love going to victory lane with Eddie.
Ryan Blaney added.
Winning has brought in a new set of problems for Wood Brother
Despite the legacy and history, Wood Brothers is one of the smallest operations in NASCAR and being family run operation, the extra responsibility after winning races is a little tough to handle. The victory has brought in a new set of challenges as well as opportunities for them.

Ahead of the Homestead Miami race week, Josh Wood, the team president, talked about the how the victory has made the operations busty for them. He admitted that they didn’t have enough staff to lean on solve issues regarding merch and media, making it stressful yet happy week.
It has been a tremendously busy few days. Len summarized it the best – winning brings on a whole new set of problems, but they’re problems that you want to have. For a small team like us, we don’t have the staff to lean on to do everything from merchandise approvals to the media aspect of it. It’s just the five or six of us that you see, so it’s been a week.

The win was bigger than 100th race win for WBR
Wood Brothers returned to victory lane last year after a long-time, when Harrison Burton won the penultimate race of the 2024 regular season at Daytona. It marked the 100th win of the team in the Cup series, making it an historic moment.

But according to team CEO Eddie Wood, the win by Josh Berry is a level above that. He revealed how everyone from his community, even people who he hasn’t been in contact with for over 50 years has congratulated his over the victory.
When Harrison won at Daytona for the 100th win, that was huge, big, the biggest thing ever. This seems to be at another level. I don’t really know why, but it seems like we’ve heard from so many people, me especially from people that I went to school with. I’m talking about first graders that I’ve heard from some of them recently, but some of them I hadn’t heard from in 40 or 50 years.
Eddie Wood said.
The victory at a proper oval instead of superspeedway has set the tone for the team this year and have also earn them the financial stability required to survive the 2025 season. It will be interesting to see how this is going to inspire them going ford this year.
