Ryan Preece is one of the most promising talents in the Cup Series. Unfortunately, the 34-year-old has failed to truly showcase his potential so far, with a rollercoaster of a stint in NASCAR’s top tier. However, things seemed to have improved for Preece since he joined RFK Racing at the start of this year. Now, he has revealed the reason behind this turnaround this season.
Preece has had a difficult time in the Cup Series, since making his debut in 2015 with Premium Motorsports. He is currently competing in his eighth season in the premier NASCAR championship. Over the years, Ryan Preece has never finished higher than 23rd in the standings. 2025 seems to be the standout year for the Ford driver, who is presently 14th in the championship, with 5 top 10 finishes so far.
The RFK Racing star was praised by NASCAR veteran Brad Keselowski ahead of the race at Nashville. Ryan Preece responded to his comments, stating that Keselowski has served as a mentor to him at the team.
He has received some important advice from the 41-year-old, to understand what he can do differently. This has given the 34-year-old a major boost in confidence, when it comes to potentially taking his first win in the Cup Series.
So, yeah, I like to, I sat down with Brad a couple of weeks ago, and just, he’s been somebody that’s been really good to talk to about maybe some challenges that I have, or maybe some of the prep work, or how he goes about things. So, that’s been, that’s been really good to be a part of and have that. I feel like we’re one thing away from clicking where we can start winning races, start leading laps, start showing what we’re capable of.

Ryan Preece opens up on good relationship with Chris Buescher
Brad Keselowski isn’t the only one supporting Ryan Preece at RFK Racing. When the 34-year-old moved to the team after Stewart-Haas’ exit from NASCAR last year, he was reunited with Chris Buescher. The two had been teammates at JTG Daugherty Racing a few years ago.

Ryan Preece highlighted that he has had a good bond with Buescher over the years, with the two being familiar with one another since their days at JTG. The 34-year-old claimed that he and his wife would often joke about wanting him to be more like Chris Buescher in the past. Albeit, Preece asserted that he was happy to change for the better if there are things that need to be improved.
Chris and I have always had a good relationship when we were at JTG. He’s somebody you know, as far as within this garage, he’s somebody that I’ve always been able to go to and talk to. Or even, my wife and I joked about, even before coming to RFK, I needed to be more like Chris. And I have no problem adjusting who I am or what I need to do to be better.
Ryan Preece explained
The RFK Racing star pointed out that both Chris Buescher and Brad Keselowski have played an influential role in his 2025 campaign and the results are visible. The 34-year-old seems rejuvenated this year and might be on his way to make it to the Playoffs this time around. However, there is still a long way to go. Preece must ensure that he carries forward this momentum till the end of the season, and potentially claim his first victory.
