NASCAR season set to get underway with a “slight modification” for Daytona 500

NASCAR race

NASCAR has made a slight change in the rule for the Daytona 500 qualifying session ahead to the season opener at the Daytona International Speedway on Sunday, February 20th. The first 40 cars are set to be chosen by one single-car qualifying session on Wednesday, February 16th.

Then the two bluegreen vacation duels on Thursday, February 17th. This first qualifying session will shape up the first two starting positions in the Daytona 500. This shall act as a curtain raiser for the duels that will take place on Thursday.

This is an unchartered territory for NASCAR as this shall be the first time that there will a qualifying session to decide the front row and Bluegreens Vacations Duels starting lineups.

So, if were to simplify it, the top 10 drivers from the qualifying race will make it to the round two which shall be the Bluegreens Vacations Duels, which will be round 2 of the  process. Then those drivers will fight it out amongst themselves to decide the top 2 positions of the front row in the “Great American Race.”

The format is something new for the drivers as it this will an extra phase for them to get through in order to start from the front row of the grid and since we know the importance of starting from the front row, we expect the drivers to bring their A game to the table.

“This same format is set to be used for the two races at Talladega Superspeedway and the summer race at Daytona International Speedway, though for these races, it is slated to determine the full starting lineups; there are no Duels for these events,” ass posted on Twitter.

“This change effectively reverts things back to the way they were before the 2020 season, though with the top 10 drivers advancing as opposed to the top 12, like had been the case,” as posted by beyondtheflag.

In the previous years we have seen that every driver had one shot to qualify for Daytona 500 during the single-car qualifying session but that is all set to change as there will be more qualifying sessions for the next two seasons for other races too. We can be in for a whole lot of exciting NASCAR action with this slight tweak to the rules.
