Bowman Gray Stadium is a revered track among motorsport fans. The quarter-mile track has been hosting races since 1949 but was part of the NASCAR calendar last in 1971. However, this sorrow state of affairs for the Oval Track is going to be changed in 2025 as the championship body has decided to replace it with another quarter-mile track in the form of Bowman Gray Stadium.
The North Carolina-based stadium was a part of the NASCAR fixture back in the day and hosted 29 Cup series races. However, the contract between the two parties ended soon causing only NASCAR-sanctioned events to take place at the stadium but no Cup series races.
On the other hand, the absence of Bowman Gray Stadium would not be felt next year as the circuit would take up the role of hosting The Clash. Though the race would award no championship points, it would be the first Cup series race in 54 years, which was last won by NASCAR Hall of Famer, Bobby Allison.
NASCAR is happy for the return of Cup Series racing at the Bowman Gray Stadium
Bill France Sr. was the CEO of NASCAR and was the co-promoter of the debut race held at the stadium in 1949. However, after his demise, his position was taken up by various other members and the championship went away from its traditional principles. Soon after, his next generations took up various roles in the organization and played an important role in NASCAR’s return to the North Carolina-based circuit.
The stadium has a seating capacity of about 17,000 people. Moreover, the stadium was packed to the brim when Ben Kennedy announced the championship’s return to the venue. This announcement made the crowd ecstatic, which the 32-year-old deemed to be a homecoming for NASCAR.
This is a homecoming for us. It’s gonna feel new and fresh with our cars and our drivers and the young talent that we have, but this is also a historic place on many levels for the weekly racing that we have. And we raced here for decades with our Cup Series, too. So it’s gonna be a neat blend when we come back next year.Ben Kennedy said in an annoucement
On the other hand, The Clash is scheduled to be hosted on February 2, 2025. Thus, NASCAR fans would be eager to witness the championship’s homecoming to the infamous stadium as drivers ramp themselves up for the challenges faced around the quarter-mile oval track.
