Tyler Reddick and Shane van Gisbergen came into the NASCAR Cup Series race at COTA, hoping to make history. The 23XI Racing driver had the opportunity be the only racer to win first three races of the season while SVG had a shot at matching Jeff Gordon’s record six consecutive road course wins. The duo battled out hard in the last lap and Michael Jordan racer came out victorious.

COTA remains the only road/street course Shane van Gisbergen has failed to conquer in the Cup Series, as he lost last year’s race to another Toyota racer, Christopher Bell. Talking to Fox sport after finishing P3, three seconds behind winner Tyler Reddick, SVG shared his disappointment and also praised the 23XI racer for his immaculate run.

It’s weird to be disappointed with second. This series is just so high level and I felt okay. We got our Chevy a lot better than yesterday, but following Tyler – his driving was immaculate, and his car was very good too.

Shane van Gisbergen told Fox Sports (Via motorport.com).

The Kiwi asserted that he did everything he could at the end to get a run on Reddick in the end but, didn’t have enough as the No:97 wasn’t a match for the No:45 Toyota. But he reiterated that the impressive driving from the 23XI played a key role in the result as well.

I tried. Didn’t quite have enough, but still a great points day for the #97…Tyler [Reddick] was just amazing. The way he was driving was really good and his car was good. We just didn’t quite have enough…

Shane van Gisbergen added.

Denny Hamlin calls Tyler Reddick’s new record generational

Talking about how impressive Tyler Reddick’s record run was, 23XI co-owner Denny Hamlin asserted that no-one is going repeat the run in his lifetime. It’s a dream start for anyone in the series to win first three races that to in three different tracks that offers three different challenges.

It’s unbelievable. I’m not going to see it again in my lifetime, someone to go out there and win three races in a row to start the season. Yeah, what a dream start for those guys. All kinds of — got Atlanta and Daytona and here. It’s just different tracks. It’s not necessarily one type.

Denny Hamlin said.

The Joe Gibbs Racing driver deserves a lot of credit for Reddick’s success. In the words of Michael Jordan, Hamlin is the mastermind that brough together the No:45 team and he was just funding the competitive decisions.

I think a lot of credit goes to him because he’s the mastermind behind finding Tyler and putting together Billy Scott and all that. Look, I just put up the money. I’m just a competitor, but I think Denny has done an unbelievable job in terms of helping build this team.

Michael Jordan asserted.

The historic run and victory over Shane van Gisbergen was the result of the hard work from the 23xI Racing crew behind the scenes. The race also proved with the right car development, the three times Supercars champion is beatable in road courses.
