Portland International Raceway was in for surprise as the NASCAR Xfinity Series race on Saturday witnessed a lot of drama till the end. The race marked the maiden second tier race win for Trackhouse Racing development driver Shane van Gisbergen who is racing full-time for Kaulig Racing to learn more about racing in the premier stock car racings series before making full-time Cup debut.

The 2023 Chicago Street race winner encountered heavy challenge from teammate and road course racing maestro AJ Allmendinger and Justin Allgaier. The three times Supercars champion’s impressive final restart played an important role in the victory for the No:97 Chevy crew.  Shane van Gisbergen celebrated the win in style.

He showcased why some fans call him the “burnout God” by pulling of an impressive smoke show. SVG drifted around the whole track at Portland burning the tiers, before coming to a halt to celebrate the win with his crew, by doing a couple of donuts on the track. He also started a post victory celebration tradition.

The New Zealand racer celebrated the win the most Kiwi way possible. He celebrated by signing a Rugby ball and kicking (punting) it to the crowd. The ball was later recovered a buy a young fand and his dad who attended the race, and they shared the wholesome moment on social media as well.

Kaulig Racing isn’t fully satisfied with the Shane van Gisbergen win

While Kaulig Racing is impressive and happy with the win, the team president Chris Rice isn’t fully satisfied with the result. He pointed out that the team expected a dominant win in the road course races and it wasn’t what they got on Saturday.

Well, we expected to win at road courses and we didn’t dominate the day…That’s the key right? We gotta figure it out, we got a week to get to Sonoma, but locking him into the playoffs is pretty big. Outside of the playoffs, it will be pretty tough, all the ovals…Kaulig Racing is one team, it’s not three.

The team will have more opportunities to win road course racers soon, as they have the best road course racing lineup in SVG, Allmendinger and Josh Willaims. It would be interesting to see how the season would playout for Kaulig.
