The NASCAR Cup Series is set for a big weekend. The championship heads to Mexico City for its first-ever race at Autodromo Hermanos Rodríguez. The 2.41-mile road course is challenging track with even F1 drivers facing the heat. Shane van Gisbergen has hinted that things will not be easy for the Next-Gen cars as the Cup Series garage prepares for this exciting round.
The Mexico City track is unlike most circuits in NASCAR. The road course is situated at an altitude of 7,500 feet above sea level. This will be a test of man and machine. While drivers will need to adjust to the potential lack of oxygen compared to usual races, the Next-Gen cars might struggle in thin air.
The Trackhouse Racing star is excited for this new challenge in the Cup Series. The Kiwi driver has already tried his hands at the circuit on the simulator, hinting that while the track seems fun to race, it will not be easy. Rather, Shane van Gisbergen expected the technical sections of the track to push drivers and their cars.
Another new track and new place that I’ve never been to before. I’ve been doing a lot of sim (work) lately and it’s pretty cool, a challenging and big track. There are lots of technical sections and it’s going to be very difficult.
Shane van Gisbergen said, as quoted by Speedwaymedia.
Moreover, van Gisbergen outlined his concerns over the Next-Gen cars. He reckoned that the cars might virtually have no downforce on this circuit. Though, the Trackhouse Racing star insisted that he was ready to race nonetheless.
Other people have been there before and the unknowns, the air and how different the cars will feel with no downforce and stuff, are big. I don’t think it’s an advantage, but I certainly know I’ll be okay there.
Shane van Gisbergen stated.
Shane van Gisbergen ready for ‘carnage’ in Mexico
NASCAR always provides fans with some action-packed racing, with no races lacking on-track battles. The Mexico City track will only add more to the spectacle this time around, due to the circuit’s unique nature with some tight corners and a long straight.

Shane van Gisbergen claimed that the start of the race might be no less than ‘carnage.’ He hinted that it could be similar to race restarts after a caution. The Kiwi driver reckoned that things might turn into chaos, but he was quite confident that he would get the job done for Trackhouse Racing.
Turn 1 is going to be carnage, I think, with how NASCAR restarts are. It’s going to be nuts but I’m looking forward to some right handers this weekend.
Shane van Gisbergen stated.
Certainly, fans can expect a dramatic race in Mexico. Drivers will face unfamiliar track conditions, making things quite challenging. While all drivers will be looking forward to seeing how things pan out, just like Shane van Gisbergen, it only takes a blink of an eye before one’s race plunges into disaster.
