The Ford giants Team Penske Racing came into the 2024 season with the hopes of continuing their impressive championship streak in the Next-Gen era. Their start to the season didn’t go as planned for the team at the start, with drivers struggling to be upfront competing for wins. But they came back late in the year, with all three of their drivers securing playoff spots.
The leading driver for the team this season has been, defending champion Ryan Blaney, who was also the only Peske driver to produce consistent runs from the start of the season. He secured their race wins so far this season and has given hopes to the Ford team that they would be able to secure the championship this season as well.
Team Penske competition director Travis Geisler recently shared his thoughts his teams’ chances of securing the championship this season. He pointed out that they feel really comfortable with the pace shown by star driver Ryan Blaney and asserted that the team is executing really well so far this season.
I feel very comfortable with where we are speed-wise with the No. 12 [team]. I think our execution is catching up to our speed now on that team, so we’ve been able to keep that ball rolling. [Blaney] could very easily be sitting here with four wins (if) Gateway goes half a cup of fuel differently.Travis Geiser said via RACER.
Travis Geiser shares his verdict on Austin Cindric’s form
Though all-three Penske drivers are in the playoff, the poor form of Austin Cindric has been a huge issue for the team. The No:2 Ford Mustang driver is in the playoff only because he secured the win Gateway after Blaney ran out of fuel. Geiser is expecting Cindric to find the consistency required to be competitive.
And then I think for the No. 2, we’re on the search for overall consistency. We’ve been able to have some really strong races – Gateway was super-strong, but then you back it up with something that’s not. We have to figure out how to smooth out those ups and downs.Austin Cindric said.
The team would be hoping to see the young driver acquire the much-required confidence in the second half of the 2024 season after the Olympics break. If he is able to do that, Penske can win the championship again, with all three drivers being in contention.
