Ford giants Team Penske had shared the sad news of the death of their former crew chief Roy McCauley. He has worked with the team for over two decades first as one of the crew engineers before getting promoted to the role of crew chief in the NASCAR Xfinity series and later in the Cup series.
McCauley first became a crew chief with legendary driver Rayn Newman in the Xfinity Series in the 2005 season. They won six races together this season, earning the veteran crew chief a premotion to the Cup series to guide Kurt Busch in the No:2 Team Penske Ford. He was soon moved to an engineer role amidst not meeting expectations.
In 2008 he once again became the crew chief with Ryan Newman and that season, they went on to win the Daytona 500. The very next-season he was tasked with guiding Brad Keselowski and later David Stremme, which he did with reasonable success. He was then promoted to more behind the scene significant roles at Penske.
In his Cup career that lasted 119 races, that saw him winning two races, with the Bristol win with Kurt Busch being his first. He won seven poles, led over 475 laps in his career. His best time with the team though came in the Xfinity series with Newman, when they dominated the 2005 season.
Team Penske releases a statement on the unfortunate death
The team acknowledged the greatness of the ex-crew chief stating he was the make it happen guy that led to success and transform their NASCAR assembly shop. Penske send their prayers to the family of McCauley.
Roy McCauley was a ‘make it happen’ kind of guy. He was a gifted engineer and one of our leaders. He served as crew chief for Team Penske’s first Daytona 500 victory in 2008 and then took the lead in transforming our processes within our NASCAR assembly shop. Our hearts and prayers go out to his wife, Amy, and their family.Team Penske said via statement.

The team feels the loss of someone that has been one of the pilers of their success and will be hoping to honour him by winning the championship this season. They have won both the championships in the Next-Gen ear, and with all three of their drivers in the playoffs, will be hoping to do the same in 2024.
