“This is so crazy”- Rookie Austin Hill grabs Xfinity series win at Daytona escaping a last-lap crash

Austin Hill edged ahead of A J Allmendinger with the help of a push from Riley Herbst to secure his first career win Xfinity series on his debut race with team Richard Childress Racing in the field which witnessed multiple crashes.
Austin Hill. on his first full-time season at Xfinity series, won in the last lap of Saturday’s ‘Beef. It’s What’s for Dinner. 300‘ avoiding a crash in stage 3 after Anthony Alfredo who lost control knocked Myatt Snider’s Chevrolet to the oncoming Jade Buford causing Myatt Snider’s car to flip in the air with its engine and rear getting ripped out after the contact with the fence.
The crash made NASCAR put out caution which froze the field and after the review, the rookie Austin Hill, who drove the No. 21 Chevrolet Camaro for RCR was declared the winner. A J Allmendinger finished the race in second followed by Noah Gragson in third, with Riley Herbst and Justin Allgaier completing the Top 5.

Austin Hill who secured his second win in Daytona following his camping world truck series win in 2019 was over the moon following his victory. He acknowledged in the post-race interview he and his spotter Derek Kneeland worked well together. Austin Hill also pointed out the fact that the push from Riley Herbst helped him to best Allmendinger adding he is thankful for the support and the belief put in him by the RCR team.
“Man, me and Derek Kneeland, my spotter, worked well. I was kept telling him all night, ‘I’m just putting that in the memory bank’ to remember late in the race. We timed perfectly,” says Austin Hill.
“That caution came out but we had a heck of a run so who knows what would have happened? I was able to drag back and (Herbst) gave me a heck of a push and I was able to get by (Allmendinger),” Austin Hill said.
“This is so crazy. I won (Daytona) back in 2019 with a new team and now we’re with RCR it’s the first race with them and we were able to get the job done. I’m speechless. Thanks to all these guys back at RCR for believing in me,” Austin Hill added.
