The 2024 NASCAR Cup Season will mark the end of an era, as 2017 Cup champion Martin Truex Jr. is set to retire at the end of the season. Joe Gibbs Racing has already signed his replacement, as current Stewart Haas Racing driver Chase Briscoe will take over the No:19 Toyota Camry for 2025 and beyond.
The move to the No:19 would be no easy task for Chase Briscoe as it would give him the best shot to win a title ever. The driver himself has admitted that his career at the top level will be done forever if he failed to be successful with the team. Toyota Racing Development president David Wilson has recently highlighted how huge the seat will be for their new signing.

He pointed out that Briscoe has a big shoe to fill at JGR as Martin Truex Jr. has been a special talent and good dude for them. Wilson claimed that his veteran driver is a great person who is willing to go through brick walls for his team and teammates. He added that there is lot left for him to do in the 2024 season.
Anybody who sits in the #19 has big shoes to fill, as they say. Martin Truex is just a special talent. He’s not just a special talent, he’s just a good dude. That’s such a random thing to say, but that’s what you think of when you talk of Martin Jr. He’s just a good dude, man! He never forgets us, his teammates, and for that, we will run through brick walls for him and will continue to do so. He’s not done yet.David Wilson told SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
David Wilson asserts it was a very difficult decision from Martin Truex Jr.
Martin Truex Jr. has been teasing his retirement from the start of the 2022 season but wasn’t able to make the all-important final decision. Wilson pointed out that it was a really difficult decision to make for the champion driver.
I’ll say this while Martin finally came to a very difficult decision. He’s been kind of circling the drain on that decision for a couple of years. Joe Gibbs and myself, and our teams have had that car number circled on our ‘What are we going to do’ list for a couple of seasons.David Wilson said.
The Toyota team has 18 races left to give Martin Truex Jr. the best retirement tour he hopes for. He hasn’t won a race this season, though he has been incredibly consistent. It would be interesting to see how the reminder of the season would playout for him.
