NASCAR hosted the second ever street race at Downtown Chicago on Sunday, that saw Alex Bowman winning the race with the help of an impressive late race strategy. The race featured a lot of drama on the track involving drivers and at the same time there were some dramas off the track involving a protest.

Two individuals locked themselves inside the fence and was seen holing a banner. They were protesting against the ongoing conflict in the middle east between Israel and Palestine. These were pro-Palestine protesters demanding actions against the state of Israel. The sign held up by them featured “[Pritzker]: We charge genocide” and “Bombs for Gaza, prisons for Illinois” messages.

The drama lasted over 40 minutes before they two were apprehended by the police. Police has to use special equipment’s to get the two protesters out of the fence and later arrest them. The organizers of the protest later released a statement demanding the US “President Joe Biden to call permanent cease-fire” and for the U.S. to cut all financial support to Israel.

The protesters targeted NASCAR driver Alon Day

One of the main allegations made by the protesters via the statement that NASCAR is aiding Jewish driver Alon Day to spread supposed pro-Israel propaganda. The driver who contested in the Xfinity Series race has been an active voice against the anti- Israel protests in Chicago and rising antisemitism.

Alon Day had disappointing race in the No:45 Alpine Prime Racing Chevy.  He was involved in crash featuring JR Motorsports driver Justin Allgaier. Day crashed into the back of the No:7 Chevy, which just crashed into the tier barrier, during practice session of the Xfinity race. APR didn’t have a back-up car and they weren’t able to race in the main event. The protesters pocked fun at Day’s race weekend via the statement as well.

Organizers also condemn the attempt made by Chicago city officials and NASCAR to manufacture consent for Israel’s mass death campaign by using the race as a staging ground for ‘proud Zionist’ driver Alon Day’s Israeli propaganda (although, it seems Day’s racing skills have made this attempt an uphill battle).
The protesters said via the statement.

NASCAR hasn’t made any official statement about the incident yet and it would be interesting to see if the stock racing body would address the situation. They will most probably keep silent on the situation as it involves really complicated politics.
