Coming into the 2025 season, there is a lot of pressure on the shoulders of Joe Gibbs Racing youngster Ty Gibbs. He hasn’t won a race in his first two years with the TRD giants; despite coming into the team his grandfather owns as the Xfinity Series champion. He had hopes of starting the season strong with a solid run at The Clash, in Bowman Gray Stadium.
Ty Gibbs plans for Madhouse were ruined by Justin Haley, while he was attempting to make the race in the Last Chance Qualifier. Going to the qualifying event, he was the only JGR driver who failed to finish top 5 in the heat races, as all three of his teammates including JGR debutant Chase Briscoe made it into the main event.

Gibbs lost out on the chance to finish top 2 in the event after he was spun out by Justin Haley, who was involved in another similar incident at Madhouse. This made the youngster, who is infamous for not holding back on the track, furious. Hence the No:54 TRD driver didn’t hesitate to retaliate before the end of the race.
He drove his Camry to the back of the No:7 Spire Motorsports Chevy, demanding the car. But the way Gibbs hit caused his car to go airborne sending him to the outside barriers while Haley’s car moved to the infield grass. Fortunately, the incident on lap 65 didn’t involve any other drivers and cause any serious delay.
Ty Gibbs shared his verdict on the incident
In his post-race interview, Ty Gibbs was pretty candid about what happened. He admitted that he didn’t want to case that much damaged to his car as well as Haley’s with his move, that tap he gave was bigger than expected. Later talking to another reporter, he added that the crash was pretty stiff.
The No:54 racer seems to have set the tone for how he is going to race in the 2025 season and might have announced that he will be going all out. It would be interesting to see how Ty Gibbs will perform through this Cup season.
