The current NASCAR Cup garage features some of the best dirt racers ever to driver in the elite Cup division. Hendrick Motorsports’ Kyle Larson, Joe Gibbs Racing’s Christopher Bell, his teammate Chase Briscoe, Hayk Motorsports’ Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and 23XI Racing’s Tyler Reddick are the biggest names in the list.

Unlike the other racers who finds time to still race in the dirt racer during their busy Cup schedule, 23XI’s Tyler Reddick has been absent from these events for a longtime. The California native is allowed to race in these events, as he asked for that freedom during the contract negotiations with Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin’s team.

I wouldn’t say it was a super-important factor, but it was one of the things that was important to me, having that freedom to do that. It came up in discussions as things were coming together.

Tyler Reddick told SpeedFreaks podcast.

But the freedom came with a catch, as there was close in the contract that mandated his full commitment to the Cup side. Reddick can only race in the dirt races that will not take anything away from his involvement in Cup competition related sessions and commitments on the track. He is yet to find that perfect time to race, despite 2025 being his third season with the team.

I got the feeling from our conversations that as long as it doesn’t take away from competition-related things that we have during the week or take away from my commitments at the racetrack, that unless it’s something absolutely crazy-crazy, I should be able to have that freedom to do it.

Tyler Reddick confirms he will make dirty racing return in the future

Talking about a potential return to sprint car in the same conversation, he admitted that he has hopes of coming back. But to do that his schedule needs to align in a way that his non-NASCAR races doesn’t become an inconvenience to his 23XI crew.

I feel like over time, I’m hoping that (the chances of his racing in a sprint car) gets better. Maybe I just need to pick a weekend and see if it hurts us.

Tyler Reddick said.

Further talking about the topic, he admitted that it is going be hard to find that time in his schedule despite that that other drivers are racing in other events without compromising their NASCAR runs.  He has to first race in a mid-week event, see how it is affecting him and the team, to plan for long term.

It’s kind of hard to judge. We’ve seen other drivers be able to do it and not impact their performance … I do wonder how that would look, how it would work. I just have to go out and pull the trigger on it and do it.

Tyler Reddick added.

The comment from Reddick proves he wants to return to dirt racing, but his priority is the Cup series. Hence, he will only make a return, when he finds the right time and event. It will be interesting to see how long it will take for the TRD driver to make that decision.
