The Brickyard 400 is never a disappointing race. The iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway provides fans with exciting action every year. This season was no different with Bubba Wallace clinching victory after an incredible drive. However, on the other side of the spectrum, JGR’s Christopher Bell ended Zane Smith‘s race on Sunday. Smith has now revealed that Bell came and apologized to his entire crew for the incident.
In the first overtime of the race at Indianapolis, Christopher Bell and Zane Smith were battling for position. The Front Row Motorsports driver was right at the front of Bell. The former Truck Series champion misjudged the situation and ended up wrecking his rival. This ended Smith’s race who went on to accuse the JGR driver of a rear hook. While Bell continued to finish in eighth place.
After the race, Christopher Bell seemed to have recognized his fault. Zane Smith’s tier carrier Skip Flores revealed that the JGR driver made his way to the Front Row garage. The 30-year-old was apologetic for the incident, taking the complete blame for the wreck. He claimed that this was the first time he had seen a driver make such an effort after a crash. Not only did Bell apologies to Smith, but even to the Front Row Motorsports crew on pit road.
Somebody get, and that’s what I wanna say about Chris Bell. He stopped by our pit box on the way back and for the first time ever, a driver walked up to all of our pit crew guys and apologized. He walked up, he’s like, hey man, I’m sorry. I was like, what happened? He’s like, I just misjudged it. I tried to pass him, I misjudged.
Skip Flores said on Stacking Pennies podcast.
Moreover, the JGR driver did not stop there. Bell even went all the way to the road crew of Smith’s team to admit his mistake. Flores insisted that taking such a step right after wrecking a car really took guts. These actions show why the Joe Gibbs Racing drivers is one of the most respected figures in the garage at the moment.
I’m sorry. He went and then he climbed over the wall and went to all of our guys. Then Ryan, I guess, found him and they walked back and he went to our truck and apologized to all our road crew guys. Oh, dang. So, like, that takes ba**s.
Skip Flores added.
Zane Smith to remember Christopher Bell’s gesture
It is not unusual for drivers to end up destroying each other’s race in NASCAR. Usually, after such a clash, a driver would call up their rival to clear things out. Though, Christopher Bell’s approach was far different, something unexpected for everyone in the field.

Skip Flores reckoned that taking such an effort to apologize to the crew was much more difficult than just calling up a driver on Tuesday. So much so, the Front Row Motorsports crew member had gained newfound respect for Christopher Bell following the entire ordeal. He pointed out that more often than not drivers simply walk past the garage, pretending to not care about such a wreck.
After you wreck somebody’s stuff to go and stop and say, hey man, I’m sorry. Because it’s one thing to call the driver on Tuesday, but to go face all the guys and do that, that’s really one of the first times I remember that. But for him to come over, he’s a racer and I gained a lot of respect for Christopher Bell coming over and apologizing and eating that… A lot of these guys, it’s easy just to keep on walking by and act like you’re better than everybody.
Skip Flores said.
Certainly, Christopher Bell has proved himself as a driver who follows the true spirit of sportspersonship. The JGR star does not hesitate to accept the blame for when he is wrong. His gesture to apologize to FRM has now cleared things out with Zane Smith, avoiding any beef in the field.
