NASCAR is infamous for its massive wrecks. Drivers are always racing one another with a margin of mere inches. A single misjudgment can cause in the field. This was the case in Atlanta on Saturday, when former Cup Series champion Denny Hamlin triggered one of the biggest crashes of this season.

During the Cup Series race at EchoPark Speedway on Saturday, Denny Hamlin found himself right in the middle of the pack. On Lap 69, the race had just restarted following a crash in stage one. As the cars got up to speed on the back stretch, Hamlin lost control of the No. 11 Toyota.

The JGR star went sideways, colliding into the No. 4 car right alongside him, before hitting the No. 2 car. This sparked a massive wreck across the field, as drivers struggled to avoid trouble. Almost half the field made contact with one another in what seems to be at least a 20-car wreck.

Smoke filled the track as over a dozen cars came to a standstill. Some of the big names involved in this pile-up include Joey Logano, Kyle Larson, Brad Keselowski, and Ryan Preece. The involved drivers were checked in the infield care center as per NASCAR protocol. The incident caused chaos on pitroad as drivers made their way back to their garages or tow trucks carried back the cars.

Denny Hamlin gives hilarious response to Atlanta wreck

Denny Hamlin is one of the most polarizing drivers in NASCAR. The Toyota driver has built himself a reputation of the villain in the field, with a large fanbase and an equally large group of haters. The JGR driver is often booed on several tracks, which seems to only make him even more motivated to continue his polarizing behavior. It is thus not a surprise that Hamlin did not seem apologetic after the massive pile-up in Atlanta.

The former Cup Series champion took to X after the race. Hamlin posted a selfie while wearing his crash helmet. He seemed to be having a neural face, while his eyes stared above. Denny Hamlin wrote a rather straightforward caption, claiming that his fun meter had peaked. The 23XI Racing co-owner was taking a dig at the incident, hinting that it seemed to be quite fun on-track.

The wreck did have a significant impact on the race in Atlanta. Several drivers incurred damage, leading to expensive repairs across the field. While Denny Hamlin did not directly acknowledge the wreck straightaway, the No. 11 driver is experienced enough to understand that it was his fault. Such crashes can indeed happen in NASCAR. However, from a veteran like Hamlin, such a massive incident is not usually expected. The JGR star must bounce back on Sunday with a stronger performance.
