Katherine Legge had a difficult outing in Rockingham this weekend in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. The Briton failed to qualify for the race in the No. 32 car. However, her team and sponsors worked out a deal with JJ Yeley‘s No. 53 Joey Gase Motorsports car to get her in the field. Unfortunately, Legge’s misery continued as she collided with the race leaders.
During the Saturday race, the frontrunners approached Legge to lap her. Nick Sanchez went past the No. 53 car in the very inside lane. However, Katherine Legge slowed down right in front of William Sawalich, who was yet to move on the inside. Sawalich’s No. 18 car made contact with Legge and pushed her sideways onto the track.
Things only got worse from this moment with Kasey Kahne slamming right into Legge’s car. While Kahne managed to recover and continue, the Briton was pushed up into the wall. This massive wreck ended Katherine Legge’s disastrous outing on Saturday.

Katherine Legge blames bad luck for Rockingham wreck
The 44-year-old was not happy following the incident. Katherine Legge was devastated to be out of the race in that way. The Briton claimed that perhaps she had been a bad person in her past life considering the bad luck she has faced.
I’m fine, just exacerbated. You know, I think I must have been really bad in a previous life or something because bit unlucky.
Katherine Legge told Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports

Moreover, Legge asserted that she simply got taken out by William Sawalich and could not have done anything to avoid the wreck. The Briton was asked whether she gave enough room to the leaders to lap her. She remained firm, claiming that there was enough space on the inside line for the cars to go through. However, the 44-year-old highlighted that Sawalich was the one who moved up the race track as they were about to finish the corner.
I mean, there was not much I could do, just got taken out by Sawalich. So, is what it is in that situation. I mean, I’d given the inside lane to whoever had just gone past me, and I thought we were going to finish the corner, but he just moved up the race track and just understeered into my left rear. So, not much you can do.
Katherine Legge explained
Katherine Legge admitted that she was just settling into the new car at the time of the wreck. It took her around 20 laps to get upto speed after her failed attempt in the No. 32 Jordan Anderson Racing Chevrolet. The crew had scrambled to get the seat ready in JJ Yeley‘s No. 53 car for the race.
You know, I was settling in, and actually, we were doing great… So, it took me 20 laps to get used to it.
Katherine Legge added
The Rockingham round was her first oval start in Xfinity Series since Richmond 2018. She has previously raced in five other Xfinity rounds. Kartherine Legge plans to compete in a dozen races this year in the Cup and the Xfinity Series. Legge raced Phoenix oval earlier this year in the Cup Series.
