NASCAR star Kyle Larson makes his second attempt at the iconic Indy 500 this year. The HMS star will be doing double duty on Memorial Day with the Coca Cola 600 in the Cup Series. However, things have been shaky for the 32-year-old. During the latest practice session at Indianapolis, Larson suffered another massive wreck, ending his run.

On Friday, Kyle Larson, driving the No. 17 Arrow McLaren lost control, with his car sliding off from the inside line and smashing into the wall. Larson’s car bounced back from the wall and continued to slide across the track with smoke coming from the tires. Ultimately, the HMS star managed to park the car on the grass, ending his practice session. This is Larson’s second crash at Indianapolis this year.

Thankfully, Kyle Larson was okay and did not sustain injuries. The 32-year-old was able to get out of the car quickly as the safety team arrived. He was able to sit in the medical car and get back to the paddock. Following the incident, Kyle Larson addressed the media. The HMS driver insisted that the track conditions would improve the next day.

Larson reckoned that the Indianapolis surface started to cool down by the end of the day, which would be closer to how things might be on Saturday. Moreover, the 32-year-old joked that such wrecks do not really affect him, as he will continue to push himself in the next session.

I think the conditions will be better tomorrow. I’m sure that the track is actually cooling down a lot now. More similar to what tomorrow would be. But yeah I think you see me crash all the time so I don’t think it usually affects me so we’ll see.

Kyle Larson no longer ‘scared’ by Indy 500 speed

IndyCar is the premier open-wheel racing series in the United States with the Indy 500 being the ‘greatest spectacle of racing.’ Drivers reach incredible speeds at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, going way beyond 200 miles an hour. This makes the race far more dangerous than the rest with no margin for error.

The IndyCar engine has a boost mode for drivers that they use to get more hybrid power during a quick lap. Kyle Larson claimed that the first time he used this boost, he almost felt like the car would’ve gone airborne due to the high speed.

Now, the NASCAR driver has become more used to this system and is no longer taken aback by the car’s power when he turns it on. This is good for Larson as it would enable him to use the boost freely and get the most out of it on the track.

Today, when you turn the boost up for your speed lap like usually it’s like oh my gosh you’re flying. But that didn’t feel like as crazy as what the open test felt when I turned it up for the first time. So I’m happy that the speed didn’t really scare me or anything like that yeah. I think as long as the car is okay, we’ll be fine.

Kyle Larson explained

Certainly, Kyle Larson remains unaffected by the wreck on Friday. The incident is undoubtedly a setback to his run at the Indianapolis. However, the 32-year-old is a confident driver who knows how to bounce back straightaway. Larson is determined to make his way to Victory Lane at the 500 this year and will leave no stone unturned to make it happen.
