Racing is a sport of man and machine. Though, sometimes there are cases of animal intervention. Animals often make their way onto race tracks. This was the case during the Cup Series weekend in Michigan when a squirrel made its way onto pit road. Unfortunately, the animal fell victim to Ty Dillon‘s car.
After Stage 2 of the FireKeepers Casino 400, Dillon was getting back to his pit box. A video on X showed that his car was right behind the animal. The Kaulig Racing driver admitted that he ran over the squirrel, in a rather sad turn of events.
I think I just murdered a squirrel getting into my pit box. Bad timing, little buddy.
Ty Dillon said on the team radio.
Unfortunately…

Ty Dillon will hope that this incident doesn’t bring about misfortune over his 2025 campaign in the Cup Series. The Kaulig Racing driver has failed to breach the top 10 so far this season, with a best finish of P12. This season marks Dillon’s return as a full-time driver in the Cup Series after he drove for a bunch of teams last year.
At the Michigan International Speedway, Ty Dillon did not end up with an astounding result. The Kaulig Racing star crossed the finish line in 24th place. Dillon scored a total of 15 points, which could be crucial for his position in the standings.
Ty Dillon credits Kaulig Racing for full-time return
The 33-year-old recognizes the importance of his big break with Kaulig Racing. The team has given him another shot at the top tier of NASCAR, to once again show what he is capable of. Ty Dillon will be hoping to fulfill these expectations by the end of the season.

Dillon made it clear that he was grateful to Kaulig Racing for giving him a full-time drive. The 33-year-old was happy to have a supportive crew of men and women in his garage. Ty Dillon had raced in a few races with Kaulig last year, which made the team decide on full campaign for him this time around.
I am incredibly grateful for another opportunity to run full-time in the Cup Series, and to be able to do it with the men and women at Kaulig Racing means a lot to me personally. They gave me a chance this year to go out and prove myself in a handful of starts. The team and I were able to connect early on and we put together a few strong runs in the No. 16.
Ty Dillon said in a press release last year.
Ty Dillon remains a fierce contender in the field. Despite not having the best of starts to the 2025 campaign, the 33-year-old remains unfazed. Dillon will be aiming to improve his performances and make his way up the field. Though, things will not be easy for Kaulig Racing compared to the top teams in the Cup Series.
