Zane Smith suffered from an extremely chaotic wreck at the Hollywood Casino 400 in Kansas. Smith’s woes began early on Saturday after he could only achieve a P28 start for the main race. The #38 driver could have achieved a great finish, potentially in the top 10, if it weren’t for his violent wreck mid-way through the race.
At the Hollywood Casino 400, Zane Smith was performing great, despite starting the race in P28. Zane Smith could have gone on to achieve a top ten finish, if not even better results. During the first overtime restart, Smith was racing against John Hunter Nemechek around Turn 3 when the latter seemed to lose control of his car and drift into the former, who was racing in his vicinity.
Nemechek made contact with Zane Smith’s left rear and sent the latter barreling into the walls. The #42 then went on to squeeze Smith’s car further, which caused his car to flip out twice on the track before finally coming to a halt sideways. Things could’ve gone extremely wrong, but thankfully, the #38 driver walked out quickly from the car and was luckily unscathed.
Zane Smith opened up on the wreck and revealed his well-being. Smith asserted that he was mad from the point that John Hunter Nemechek crashed into him. Smith insisted that the massive crash pissed him off even more, especially after his car kept flipping on the track. As such, the #38 driver reckoned that the crash was undoubtedly a violent one.
I was just mad at that point from how our day was going and this just pissed me off even more because that’s what really hurt was just flipping down the track. It was violent, no doubt.
Zane Smith told Fox Sports.

Zane Smith labels his Kansas outing as a ‘bummer’
If it wasn’t for the wreck, Zane Smith would’ve walked out of the race with a great finish despite not making it into the playoffs. Smith could have scored great points and further prove his racing prowess on the grid. Sadly, the sophomore driver had to suffer from a DNF in the race without even being completely at fault. As such, the 26-year-old christened his outing on Sunday with a disappointing title.

Zane Smith declared that his outing at Kansas was a bummer. Smith insisted that right before the caution came out, he was poised for atleast a top ten finish, if not better. The #38 driver raced inside the top ten the entire day, but ultimately was classified as DNF. As such, it was a shame that he couldn’t salvage great points over the weekend and walk out of the race with a smile on his face.
It’s just a bummer, Right before that caution came out, we were going to have a top-10 day, racing up inside the top 10 a majority of the day, and it’s a shame that it has to come to an end out there.
Zane Smith noted.
Zane Smith luckily walked out of the race unscathed and did not suffer from any massive injuries that could have sabotaged his coming races. For now, Smith will focus on mental and physical recovery and hopes to give it his all once again at the upcoming Charlotte race. The 26-year-old is definitely one of the better young drivers on the grid and has a promising-looking career ahead.
