‘We’re just wasting everybody’s time,’ Kyle Larson on Bristol Motor Speedway dirt race with ‘Windshields on’

"If we’re not going to take the windshields out, then why are we racing on dirt?": Kyle Larson

NASCAR will hit the Bristol Motor Speedway for the annual Food City Dirt Race, which will host the debut of Next-Gen cars on the dirt track, this weekend. The dirt race will be one of the most unique and challenging races so far for the Cup series drivers, something the fans are carving after the average race weekends in Martinsville and Richmond.

One of the many challenges drivers will face is navigating through the unsettled dirt after a few laps. Many drivers and individuals from the NASCAR community had come forth suggesting NASCAR make changes such as removing the windshield as dirt racing a decision the organization refused to consider.

Now reigning Cup series Champion and one of the prominent names in US Dirt racing, Kyle Larson has come forth demanding NASCAR to remove the windshield as he believes without doing it there is no point for NASCAR to have a dirt race.

Kyle Larson suggested that racing in the Bristol Dirt track with the windshield in place will be pointless as he believes with the windshield still on NASCAR can’t produce a real dirt race with moisture on the track. He went on to say that though racing on Bristol is amazing it is just a waste of time as fans and competitors deserve more than it.

“I guess the way that I look at it (is) if we’re not going to take the windshields out, then why are we racing on dirt? We just shouldn’t race on dirt if we’re not going to take the windshields out and actually have a dirt race with moisture in the track and be able to produce a real dirt race. I feel like we’re just wasting everybody’s time a little bit and not giving the fans and competitors what we all deserve, Kyle Larson said on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

So, in my opinion, if we’re not going to take the windshields out, we might as well just never put dirt on Bristol again – which I’m all for not putting dirt on Bristol whether we have windshields or not. I think the racing at Bristol is amazing just as normal,” Kyle Larson added.
