The No:48 Chevy teams championship hopes was shattered at Charllotte Roval on Sunday. Alex Bowman was disqualified from the race by NASCAR after his car was found to be underweight during the post-race test. The DQ was enough cause the veteran racers’ elimination from the playoff, giving Joey Logano the R-8 spot instead.

NASCAR gave Hendrick Motorsports every opportunity to make the changes under the rules, that will allow team to pass the check. But they failed to do so, despite having the opportunity change the fuel and run-in in the water. The Chevy giants still had the opportunity to change the verdict with the appeal but has now decided to not to appeal the verdict.

They released a statement confirming the decision and admitted that Alex Bowman‘s team has made a tough a review of the situation and founded out that they simply didn’t give enough margin with the car to meet the required margins. HMS admitted that though it was unintentional, it was an avoidable infraction.

Hendrick Motorsports will not appeal the disqualification of the No. 48 car following Sunday’s race at the Charlotte ROVAL. NASCAR allows a clear margin to account for the difference in pre- and post-race weight. After a thorough review by our team and the sanctioning body, we simply did not give ourselves enough margin to meet the post- race requirement. Although unintentional, the infraction was avoidable

Hendrick Motorsports said via a statement.

HMS apologizes to the fans and sponsor

The HMS team was really disappointed with how everything turned out and how they missed out on a chance to have all four of their cars in the Round of 8. They also apologized to the fans and the sponsors of the team for the costly mistake.

We are extremely disappointed to lose a playoff spot under these circumstances and apologize to our fans and partners.

Hendrick Motorsports added in the statement.

The comment from HMS suggests that it was the mistake from the team that costs the DQ, and it can be seen as an admission of guilt. The team now has to compensate for their mistake by giving the No:48 team the same preference as they give the other three playoff drivers and help them to redeem himself by securing a race win.
