LEGACY MOTOR CLUB has announced that the co-owner and No:84 Chevy Camaro ZL1 driver Jimmie Johnson will not drive in the upcoming Chicago Street Race. The decision came following a family tragedy involving his wife’s parents.

Johnson joined the Chevy team at the end of the 2022 season as co-owner. He has made a handful of starts in 2023, including the Daytona 500, and was waiting for NASCAR’s Street course debut.

In a statement released, LEGACY MC confirmed that the Seven Times Cup champion with Hendrick Motorsports would not race in the Chicago event. The team refused to give any reason and said that the Johnson family had requested privacy and that the team would not be releasing further statements.

Legacy Motor Club has elected to withdraw the No. 84 Carvana Chevrolet from this weekend’s NASCAR Cup Series event in Chicago. The Johnson family has asked for privacy at this time, and no further statements will be made,” the statement read.

The Johnson family is going through a devastating period right now. His wife Chandra’s parents and her nephew was found dead. According to the police, the incident involving Jack and Terry Janway and 11 years old Dalton is a possible murder-suicide.

The Muskogee Police Department received a distress call from a woman about a potential disturbance involving an individual with a gun. But when the police got to the location, the final gunshot was heard, and during the search, they found three dead bodies.

The Public information officer Lynn Hamlin of the police department revealed that the police suspects that Jack Janway had killed his 68-year-old wife and his grandson before committing suicide when the police arrived at the scene.

Dalton was a fifth-grade student at Sadler Arts Academy who was cherished by his teachers and fellow classmates. Our heart goes out to the entire Rougher community who knew him as a friend and classmate,” Muskogee Public Schools released a statement mourning Dalton Janway’s death.
