The 2024 NASCAR Cup season so far has been tough for rookie of the season contender Zane Smith. He has been involved in multiple incidents so far this season and this Sunday’s race at Dover was no different. The No:71 Chevy Camaro ZL1 driver caused the DNF of 23XI Racing’s Bubba Wallace, JGR’s Christopher Bell and HMS’ William Byron.

On lap 329 of the race, coming to turn two, Zane Smith’s Chevy made contact with the No:23 Toyota Camry of Bubba Wallace, after the 23XI driver overtook his via the outside lane. This resulted in Wallace making contact with the wall and skidding down to the bottom lane as he lost control of his car.

He made contact with Christopher Bell and William Byron, who was running the lane and it resulted in all three cars suffering significant damages. They were moved to the infield care centre soon after for medical evaluation. Wallace was the first one released and later he was joined by the Bell-Byron duo.

The last two weeks has been really tough for Wallace and Bell. They were involved in a big wreck and got DNFed last week at Talladega as well. What’s more disappointing for Bell is the fact that it was his third DNF of the season that has just saw 11 races. It was a disappointing day for Byron as well as his biggest rival for championship in the 2024, Denny Hamlin secured his third win and equalled the win tally with him.

Here is how fans on X reacted to the incident

The NASCAR fans on X had a mixed set of reaction to the incident. Most of them were quick to either call out or mock the Spire Motorsports driver who was loaned to there from Trackhosue for having such a bad season and being involved in many incidents.

There were also some comments highlighting the bad luck of Bell and Wallace. Some fans, as usual also came up with vendetta filled criticism of Bubba Wallace as well. Last week he suffered the same online as well despite being a victim.

Jokes aside, Zane Smith has to get back to his best if he wants to keep his Trackhosue contract, considering his fellow developmental drivers Shane van Gisbergen and Conor Zilitch are producing impressive performances in their respective championships and are now ahead of him in the pecking order.
