NASCAR’s Steve Phelps shares a heartfelt retirement message to “class act” Martin Truex Jr.
NASCAR president Steve Phelps has shared a message to Martin Truex Jr. on his retirement from full-time racing in 2024.

The 2024 NASCAR Cup season will mark an end of an era, as the 2017 champion Martin Truex Jr. is set to retire from full-time race after the season finale. He will leave an unparallel legacy in the sport, as a seasoned veteran, an underdog champion, a serious race winner and most of all, one of the most respected racers ever.
Ahead of the season finale NASCAR President Steve Phelps has given has shared a message for the Joe Gibbs Racing veteran with a shout out during the press conference. The sport is going to miss one of the most famous drivers they have and so Phelps was determined to giving him a quick shout out about the retirement.
Just a quick shout out. I know this is going to sound like a bit of a non-sequitur, but I did want to make sure that I said something about Martin Truex and his retirement from full-time racing.
Steve Phelps stated in a press conference at Phoenix.
He asserted that Martin Truex Jr. has been a class act on the track and went on to highlight how clean he has raced over the years. Phelps pointed out NASCAR will mis the driver and shared his hopes of seeing the veteran back on track for one of events in the future.
Martin has been a class act. He is a clean race car driver, never dirty, and he’s got a great fan base, and we will miss him. We are hopeful that he’ll come back and do one-off races, or participate in other ways in the sport.

Steve Phelps also gives a shout out to Tony Stewart
While further talking, Steve Phelps also give a shout out to Hall of Famer Tony Stewart who is set to exit the sports as a team owner selling his shares in the SHR charters. He asserted that Stewart is always welcome back to the sport and wished him bets for the future as a family man.

Then, likewise, Tony Stewart (is) selling his charters. Tony is going to concentrate with Leah [Pruett] on their family and on drag racing. So, we wish Tony well. Tony is always welcome at our race tracks, as well.

The comments from Steve Phelps highlights the fact that NASCAR is going to miss the Truex Jr. and Stewart duo a lot, as they have always been crowd pullers. It would be interesting to see if the sport can find the right replacements for the duo to put on the pedestal, to garner fans support.
