Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark did not waste any time in showcasing the world and the WNBA what they missed since she was injured. Clark got straight into action on Saturday against the New York Liberty. Not only did she just feature for her side, but Clark dropped an all-timer of a performance in front of her home crowd against the Liberty.

In 31 minutes of play, she scored 32 points on 11 of 20 field goals, including 7 of 15 from three-point range, while also dishing out 9 assists and pulling down 8 rebounds. In addition to being her first game back following a 19-day absence due to a left quad strain, this effort was noteworthy since she was being guarded by Natasha Cloud, a renowned defender.

Cloud’s lockup of Clark during their May 24 matchup enhanced her status as one of the game’s top defenders. On Saturday, Cloud didn’t enjoy the same level of success. Additionally, Cloud made a strong statement on the most difficult aspect of protecting Clark via a June 15 TikTok live. The liberty defender stated that Clark is one of the best shooters in the game.

Towards the conclusion of the first quarter, Clark launched a three-point assault that featured some of her signature deep shots for her logo. And when Clark catches fire, particularly at that range, as Cloud hinted, there’s just nothing an opponent can do. She went to the Liberty, scoring 8 points in 40 seconds, leaving the NBA world in awe.

On July 16, when the Fever goes to New York to play the Liberty, Cloud will have another opportunity to slow down Clark on the floor. This matchup will surely be one to watch, especially after Clark got the better of Cloud in their recent outing.

ESPN commentator clarified Natasha Cloud’s foul on Caitlin Clark

During the Fever-Liberty game, Natasha Cloud made a harsh foul on Caitlin Clark. She got hit by the ball in her face. Clark was trying to get around a screen from Kelsey Mitchell with little over four minutes remaining in the second quarter when Liberty guard Cloud, who was given a personal foul charge, shot him in the face.

In a replay that was shown by ESPN shortly after Cloud’s foul, Rebecca Lobo claimed that envy had nothing to do with the play.

Natasha Cloud trying to swim-move over the screen, accidentally gets Caitlin hit in the face. Got her on the upswing. There’s no jealousy there, fans. Just a basketball foul.

Rebecca Lobo said

The conversation with Cloud is not the only one in which Clark has been involved. Many fans think there have been sporadic altercations because some WNBA players have displayed jealousy for the 2024 Rookie of the Year. Lobo’s comment was probably the result of this.

The Caitlin Clark effect came into play during the Fever-Liberty game

After Caitlin Clark recovered from her injury, the WNBA saw a record-breaking number of viewers for the Fever-Liberty game, showcasing the CC Effect in full swing. The Fever-Liberty’s viewership figures were made public, and they exceeded all prior records.

The WNBA Commissioner’s Cup included this game as well. With a record-breaking 20 million viewers, the Indiana Fever vs. New York Liberty game became the most-watched WNBA game ever. Caitlin Clark and Sabrina Ionescu‘s matchup was a classic.

Despite both players scoring 30 points during the match, the Fever emerged victorious. In addition to making history in terms of attendance, Indiana broke New York’s franchise-best nine-game winning run. Now, it remains to be seen what’s next for Clark and Co. as they move forward in the season.
