Newly crowned UFC middleweight champion Khamzat Chimaev has put the entire 185-pound division on notice. The Chechen superstar put on a dominating wrestling performance against Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 319 with a record-breaking 21 minutes of control time and over 529 strikes. However, his former rival and fan favorite, Nate Diaz, had an interesting theory to beat the Chechen superstar.
Diaz was seen talking about the UFC 319 main event with infamous YouTuber Sneako. The conversation quickly veered into the Stockton native revealing his game plan to eliminate Chimaev’s grappling threat. He also made some interesting claims regarding his cancelled bout against Chimaev at UFC 279 in 2022.
I didn’t plan on getting up when I fought Khamzat. Let’s go to the ground, motherf*cker. I’m a blackbelt. I plan on going to my back and finishing your f*cking a** or or splitting your whole face open for 25 minutes.

Diaz revealed that he was warned by other fighters before the canceled bout regarding Chimaev’s wrestling. However, the ‘Stockton Slugger’ dismissed Chimaev’s grappling prowess and revealed that he would tire out the Chechen superstar by holding down his position on the ground. He spoke about how he would rather lose the decision than get intimidated by Chimaev’s wrestling.
The rivalry between ‘Borz’ and Diaz initially ignited after the Chechen powerhouse was removed from his fight against the Stockton native at UFC 279. It was a main event fight that was putting a seasoned fighter against a rising powerhouse. However, Chimaev missed weight by a wide margin, which demoted him to the main card spot against popular journeyman Kevin Holland.
The intensity between the two had, however, started to rise before Chimaev had missed weight. Chimaev and Diaz were involved in a backstage brawl that made UFC head honcho Dana White cancel the pre-fight press conference. Diaz was then set to main event against Tony Ferguson and defeated ‘El Cucuy’ with a guillotine submission.
Despite never sharing the Octagon, the heated buildup, backstage confrontations, and public trash talk cemented their brief feud as one of the most chaotic episodes in recent UFC history. This had left fans to wonder what might have happened had the matchup taken place.
Nate Diaz goes off on Khamzat Chimaev’s fighting style
Nate Diaz is known for his trash-talking skills and badass personality. He has used trash talk and threats both inside and outside the UFC to intimidate his opponents. The ‘Stockton Slugger’ was a constant critique of Chimaev leading up to their matchup, and on many instances dismissed the Chechen superstar’s fighting style.

Chimaev completely controlled his UFC 319 main event fight against DDP and scored 12 takedowns, landing a dominant 50-44 decision to win the title. However, Diaz believed that ‘Borz’ would not stand up and fight and is scared to waiver from his game plan of grappling. He also believes that Chimaev put on a facade of being an intimidating fighter, but was actually “scared”.
That type of fighter is a scared fighter. He’s scared for his life… He’s that afraid that if he lets go to hit him hard, that mothe***cker might get up and get the f**k away from him. So, that’s a scared style to me. He comes off as this big, intimidating guy, but he’s a big scared f***ing child… You can tell by how scared he is, holding him that tight

Diaz’s latest outburst keeps the fire alive, ensuring that fans continue to imagine what could happen if the Stockton brawler and the Chechen powerhouse ever finally settled their differences inside the cage. Whether or not the fight materializes, the clash of styles and personalities makes ‘Stockton’ vs. ‘Borz’ one of MMA’s great “what if” showdowns.
