The National camp for the Olympic core group shooters began at the Dr. Karni Singh Range at Tughlaqabad on Thursday after strict adherance to COVID-19 safety protocols. All shooters, coaches and support staff had already been tested for the coronavirus disease when they reported for the camp. They were then quarantined in a hotel for a week before a second test cleared them to start training at the range.

Most of the shooters reported for the camp. There were some exceptions however, like Asian skeet champion Angad Vir Singh Bajwa who announced that he would train at his home range in Chandigarh as he to take care of his grandparents. Due to the absence of national skeet coach Ennio Falco, Angad stated that he was following the guidance of his coach Tore Brovold in order to train at home.

‘Nothing much has changed’

The shooters stated to The Hindu that nothing had changed since they’ve all been practicing at home. Olympic quota holder in skeet Mairaj Ahmad Khan said, “I hope Falco (skeet coach) joins soon. For me, nothing much has changed, as I have been regularly training at the range”.

There will be a one-week break for a week for Deepavali, before all shooters assemble once again for training which will continue till December 17.
